Wisconsin Dells next weekend
We are heading up to Madison next weekend and wondered if there is anything to see or do in the Wisconsin Dells at this cold time of the year. My father is a railroad buff and is always looking for train-type attractions. Thank you!!

There are several indoor waterparks and other attractions still open in the Dells. If you're more interested in trains though, you can try looking at this website:

The museums in the Madison area are listed under Central, Southeast and Southwest.

Dear Xrae,
Your father may enjoy the Mid Continent Railway Museum. Looks like they are having a train event on the weekend of Dec 4/5. More info at:

Another interesting possibility is Circus World Museum, which was the winter headquarters for the Ringling Brothers circus. Huge collection of historical circus carriages, and the Great Circus Train starts from this location each summer. They are on winter hours now, only open M-F. More info at:

Welcome to Madison. Also, consider a tour of the Madison's capitol building!
Best wishes, SusanEva

Thanks for the Dells suggestions -- we go to Madison every year at this time (for the Matt Kenseth Fan Club party, if you're a NASCAR fan) so we've already done State Street and the Capitol building -- WOW! What a fabulous building! We really enjoyed ourselves and took our time with the self-guided tour up top. I'm also hoping to finally visit the Essen Haus, as hubby is a beer nut and is of German descent.
I'll post a report if we see anything interesting up there.

You also might enjoy "The House on the Rock" which is not far from Madison and and AMZAING collection of well.....everything, tiffany lighting, toy trains, dolls, crown jewels, carousel (the largest in the US and maybe in the world), musical instruments. For anyone that collects anything this is quite a site to see.
Have fun.
