Winter wear question ,hotel question, and theater question

I will be going to New York City the end of this month with my 5 year old son. I have been before, the most recent time was last April.

I have 3 questions I was hoping I could get help with. The first is in regards to the weather, I live in south florida so I am not used to the cold. Las year when I went I wore a leather jacket and layered underneath in the mornings and nights I was still cold. The weather was in the low fifties I think. This time I was advised to get a wool jacket, I managed to find one from J crew. I wanted to make sure that would be better. I know I will still probably need a sweater underneath. I also bought gloves and a hat this time and managed to fing my son a heavy winter coat.

My next question is that I am between 2 hotels for us to stay at. The first is the residence in which is on 39th and 6th and the other is the Millienium broadway, I stayed at that one when I went once by myself for work, but was thinking the other location might be better since I will be with my son. The room is bigger and while it is not in the middle of everything, it still relatively close to things. Just wanted some feedback or advice.
My final question is in regards to a show. Last time I was there with my wife and 2 sons we took them to see Tarzan, and got the tickets in advance, when I have been on my own I usually get tickets at TKTS. This time my son wants to see hairspray, he loved the movie, should I get the tickets ahead of time or will the likely have them at TKTS?
Thanks in advance for the help

If I were going to be walking around outside in the cold a lot, I would wear a (wool) jacket like you mentioned with a sweater and underneath that some kind of thin shirt that tucks into my pants. I have one type of thin shirt I like. I think the name is Cuddle Duds.

You will want some sort of boots with some waterproofing spray on them or something waterproof already like this:

We were just in Toronto and it was very sloshy walking around. We were very glad to have warm dry feet.

Oh yeah, in the winter I also often wear very thin long underwear under my jeans. It helps keep the wind out.

1)Leather jackets never feel warm. Hat, gloves and scarf will help.

2) The Residence Inn rooms are studio suites with a kitchen. While you may do no cooking, it's a nice convenience with a 5 yr old for snacks, takeout food etc.

The 2 hotels are not that far apart. I'd go for the RI BUT they don't have any rooms with 2 beds, only 1 bed and a sofabed. So if there are 3 of you and you don't want your son in a sofabed, this is not the best choice. The Courtyard Marriott Times Square is across the street from the Residence Inn, has large rooms for NYC and includes breakfast I think.

You might also check the specials on travelzoo.com to see if any others appeal to you.

3) Discounted Hairspray tickets are available with a code from http://www.broadwaybox.com/shows/hai...c_tickets.aspx

You can buy in advance online or by phone (where you can speak to a live person !) or wait til you get to NYC and take the discount (printed out from your computer) to the box office. Just a heads up that some shows have a minimum age restriction so check to see if 5 is ok for Hairspray.

McLaurie,
Thanks for the link to the discount Broadway theater tickets. My family is planning a last minute trip to NYC next week and it looks like we may be able to get some discounted tickets... thanks!!!

Hey Thanks for the tips advice! There will only be two of us for this trip and I am leaning towards the RI. It is newer plus I get mariott reward points. we usually stay at them when the four of us go on trips, I will check the age for Hairspray thanks again to all!
