Wine Country Accomodations
Planning a trip to Wine Country in August, 2002 with 2 couples. Would like special accomodations but not super pricey. We have 8 nights & want to split them between Napa Valley and Sonoma Valley. Here are some of our choices: Madrona Manor, Heraldsburg Inn on the Plaza, Farmhouse Inn in Forestville, MacArthur Place, Garnett Creek Inn in Calistoga, Maison Fleurie (is this still a quality b&b?), La Residence & Milliken Creek Inn. Any information on these establishments would be appreciated (esp. Farmhouse Inn).

Madronna Manor is one of our very favorite places in northern California. It's a beautiful property with a great restaurant and wonderful staff. The last time we were there my husband's back went out and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. There's also a new hotel on the plaza (Madronna Manor is a short drive out of town) called Hotel Healdsburg. Just opened last fall. Good reviews so far and Healdsburg Inn on the Plaza is very good as well. MacArthur Place is our first choice in the town of Sonoma. In the Napa Valley, I like Wine Country Inn--always good, always consistent. [email protected] On Lodi Lane, centrally located. We find Maison Fleurie and Bordeaux House too cluttered and rooms too small. Prefer Vintage Inn if you want to be in Yountville, but it's a matter of taste. I've always wanted to stay at the lovely Mount View Hotel in Calistoga, but they've always been booked when I've tried. Someday. Maybe you'll be successful, it sounds great.

Posted this earlier today also-was married in a small Sonoma winery-had my bridal shower at the Healdsburg Inn-the one mentioned above-and DEFINATELY want to go back to stay there-it was wonderful! The wedding party stayed at the Geyserville Inn just down the road-more hotel-ish for sure but really quiet with a pool and vineyards all around...

I've spent hours surfing the net and also bought a few travel books on the Napa/Sonoma area. I thought we could stay in Calistoga for $150 a night or under - HA! I talk to other employees of our company over the phone who live in that area and one guy was nice enough to drive through Calistoga and describe to me what different places looked like. Thanks to him, I cancelled reservations at Carlin Country Cottages & changed to Garnett Creek Inn.
