Trip Report Wilmington, NC trip report

Who we were: a business group occupying about twenty five rooms
Where we stayed: Shell Island resort at the north end of Wrightsville Beach. The rooms are showing wear despite some touch ups (new cabinets in the kitchen, new spreads and curtains in the bath, new bath fixtures). All rooms are oceanfront suites with full kitchen. Our rate was $99 a night and for that, it was fine. I prefer the Sunspree but they were unable to accomodate us. The on site food was not particularly good. I did eat some breakfast items at the meeting. Those who tried the restaurant said it was very bad and the sanitation rating was not high. The staff at the front desk was distracted and not terribly professional. It is the first time in years that a my room number was announced by the desk person quite loudly. Usually women travelling alone are given the number in writing. The rooms open up on a relatively accessible walkway connected to a public garage so the concern was real. I would recommend this resort if the rates are good as the location is wonderful (I took my bike and rode the beach road several days) and the beach is beautiful. The rooms have two beds and a pullout couch in the living room.
Where we ate:
The first night we had pizza in the hospitality suite because of monsoon rains. It was fun and gave everyone a chance to visit before we got down to work.
Lunch twice at NoFo cafe on Military ByPass Road. Very good.
Dinner once at PortLand Grille, excellent. Service was excellent. This place simply never disappoints.
Dinner once at Jerry's on Wrightsville Ave, also excellent. Service was slow and annoying, but we weren't in a hurry.
Special Treats:
Shopping at Lumina Station is very good.
I had a facial at the Harbour Club Day Spa in Lumina Station. The esthetician was Sara and she is FABULOUS. I sent several other members of my group to her and we are all convinced she is the best. The price was about $75 and the quality beat the Grove Park top of the line facial!
YAPS, great dog bakery to bring back some treats for the little guys at home. Plus a cute Halloween scarf for the dog who visits the Ronald McDonald House.
I love the area and hated to make such a short trip but I was off to Boston the next day......
