Wilmington, NC to Raleigh - Anything interesting to see in between?
Wife and I are leaving Wilmington, NC to Raleigh on the 19th April (hotel is actually in Chapel Hill).
Next morning we will leave Chapel Hill heading directly towards the Blue Ridge Parkway, without coming back to Raleigh.
I am wondering if there is anything worth stopping over in between Wilmington and Raleigh (Fayetteville, maybe???), or should we spend whatever time we have left that day t just in Raleigh?

I found this website w/ a listing of things to see in NC:
http://www.roadsideamerica.com/location/nc/all
Some of the attractions are nothing that I would drive out of the way to see but everyone has different interests.
Blue Ridge Parkway-we took BR this past April on our drive home to New England. It's a beautiful drive and very scenic but can be hairy on some of the turns. It was very foggy the day we drove it and zero visibility on some parts, and we were very happy to get off in Roanoke. I would check the weather/road alerts even in April. Here's a good map:

Of course, there are many nice sights to see but not sure what your other destinations might be after you leave Raleigh. Blue Ridge Parkway - what is your destination from there?
We did a stop in Asheville on another trip home and stayed overnight in Asheville - loved it there! Did a tour of the Asheville Estates and the winery. The estate tour is self-guided w/ headsets and you can go at your leisure. We were there at least 2 hours as there is much to see.
We also did a stop in Mt. Airy and spent an overnight there. Absolutely loved our visit there. "Mayberry" and Andy Griffith is what you might remember. Walk along Main St. is like going back in time and remember the Andy Griffith Show! LOL Fun day there.
If you like Bluegrass, then here are some things to see:

There are many things along the BR just depends upon your interests. Hope this gives you some ideas.
Others may have suggestions for your Wilmington to Raleigh destination. We've been to Wilmington and explored that area as my bro lives in Wilmington.

Good Luck. Enjoy your adventure!

Thanks a lot to each and everyone of you for the inputs.
@ suewoo Yes, certainly. If there is something interesting we will be willing to get off the highway,
Wilmington is a stepping stone in a trip which starts in Miami on the 19th March, so by the time we leave Wilmington we will already have been on the road for exactly one month.
We must be back to Miami on the 24th, prior to boarding a cruise to Europe on the 26th April.
This part of the trip is where we will make a U turn to get back to Miami and, after Asheville, we will probably make a straight line to Miami, possibly just stopping over for some sleep.
Altoghether, from Wilmington till we get back to Miami we have 5 days.
From Chapel Hill we will stop over in Winston-Salem in order to visit Old Salem. Should we spend a night in Winston-Salem?
From Winston Salem we will then head towards the BR Parkway.
I am still not sure where we will join Blue Ridge, but I won't go over the NC border with Virginia.
Inputs re where to join the Parkway are more than welcome, though I thought of making it a separate and more specific post.
I will definitely reach Asheville coming south using the Blue Ridge Parkway.

It's only about 2 hours to Raleigh so just get on the road and go. If you are near a good BBQ place at a meal time, get some. Otherwise, there are others.
You could just stay in Winston for the night. And I agree, just keep going and get on at Boone/Blowing Rock. You can see the big cantilevered highway there. Five days to Miami? It's a haul, with the sightseeing you are planning.
