Williamsburg, VA with toddler

My husband, 14 month old and I will be visiting Williamsburg, VA the first week of September (including Labor day.) Any suggestions on how many days to spend at the major attractions? Is it worth going to Watercounty USA for instance with such a small child? Will there be things for him to do at Busch Gardens and Colonial WIlliamsburg? He's not yet at the age where he gets bored easily, but he will get annoyed staying in the stroller all day. We also intend to venture out of the Williamsburg area to the beach- any suggestions on that? This is our first vacation to the area so any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Although both Busch Gardens and Water Country have areas specifically for young children, most of the attractions are geared to the 3-5 year old set. Busch allows 2 and under in free so that tells you something right there. If you're going because you or your husband enjoy theme parks, I'd definitely pick BG over WC. Your son will be able to do some of the little kid rides (with your help of course) plus there are the animals and the shows for him to see.

Colonial Williamsburg has nothing specifically designed for toddlers but there are lots of grassy areas and gardens where he can get out of the stroller and burn off some energy while you enjoy the history.

Williamsburg has a very large playground called Kidsburg located at the Mid-County Park. You'll find lots of todders there! Take a picnic with you.

The VIrginia Beach oceanfront is about an hour and a half from Wmbg. It and the highways leading to it will be PACKED over Labor Day weekend so save the trip for a weekday. Ditto for the theme parks which will be filled to capacity with kids packing in their last moments of summer vacation.

(Hi obx!)
There are quite a few animals in pastures in Colonial Williamsburg - historical breeds of sheep, cows, etc. My sons have always enjoyed watching them.

I agree with obx on her post about Kidsburg, Busch Gardens and Water Country and the beach.

Have a wonderful trip!

A nice aspect of Colonial Williamsburg is that no cars are allowed in the area during the day so your toddler can roam freely down the streets.

We are also planning a trip with our little guy (he'll be 18mo) the same week and did a bit of research into the two parks and WC didn't seem to have very many height restrictions - just parental discretion. So if you are swimming lots this summer then some bigger slides might be ok to go on with you. They both also seemed to have good kid areas and they supply life jackets. Now if we can just convince Grandma to take him for the 2nd half of the day so we can play!

As I recall Williamsburg from a long time ago there were plenty of areas for them to run around and explore.

It has been so difficult to think of a vacation place that is good for him (water, things to do, slow time) and good for Grandma and mid-20 Uncle too, maybe Williamsburg fits the bill?

We live in Williamsburg and you've gotten advice from the best. Only a bit more to add - Water Country is not good for someone so young (I took my 2 yr old this week and got to do nothing and it costs too much to have to stay in the kiddie pools all day). Busch is pretty nice for all ages. Yorktown Beach has been re-done and is lovely - and only 25 min max from Williamsburg. You drive the Colonial Parkway, which is lovely. Enjoy your trip!
