Thinking of Thanksgiving in area from St Aug FL, have children 17 and 10. Would likely drive up Sat return next Sat. Interested in historical sites, Wmbg, Jamestown, etc, scenic/ natural history, and fun (not Busch Gardens, we already have one in FL). Any input re length/place of stay, places of interest, don't miss dining, etc appreciated.

A new place opened this year that kids might really like - Great Wolf Lodge williamsburg.greatwolflodge.com - it has an indoor water park, would be great on any rainy or really cold days. It is very convenient to Pierce's Pitt Cooked BBQ and area attractions. This is good time to come, cooler. (Busch Gardens closes here Oct 30 until next spring) Williamsburg, Yorktown Victory Center, Jamestown, also you could drive down to Newport News to Mariner's Museum, very unique and large maritime museum. Also check out www.history.org and www.visitwilliamsburg.com
Driving north on 95 be sure to get on I-295 in Virginia and head toward Wmsbg/ Va Beach, then get off on I-64 or Route 60 to Williamsburg.
Search "Williamsburg" here and you will find lots of info. You might enjoy the Great Wolf Lodge for 1-2 nights, but I don't think you will want to spend the entire time there. My 14 yo loved it, but the 18 yo only enjoyed the H2O basketball and arcade. I agree w/ JoyinVirginia's suggestions about websites plus google "Williamsburg VA visitor". Colonial Williamsburg has some interesting evening programs which the entire family should enjoy plus all the day activities. W/ Jamestown and Yorktown, that's a lot of hx so don't know if your kids will get tired of hx overload. There is some good outlet shopping for a different diversion plus President's Park, riding the ferry from Jamestown to Surry and feeding the birds-sounds dorky but take bread and it's fun!-w/ lunch at the Surry House, enjoy the new Riverwalk area at Yorktown after touring the battlefield and lunch at Nick's on the H2O or River's End across bridge in Gloucester, visit the College of William & Mary-2nd oldest college in America, go see a movie or program at the Kimball theatre in Merchant Square-restored old fashion theatre. Don't know if you want to spend the entire time in historic triangle area or venture to Richmond or VA. Beach both 1 hr away or to Charlottesville which is 2 hrs to visit Monticello & Univ. of VA w/ lunch at Michie's Tavern and apple picking. Lots of places to stay in this tourist town, but a place like Kingsmill has amenities-golf courses, spa, indoor pool, tennis courts, etc. Make sure you have dinner at one of the taverns in Colonial Wmsbg. Good luck and enjoy!
