Wild west museums
Taking a trip to western Wyoming, eastern Utah and Arizona in the spring. My husband loves western history, old guns and museums. Where are the best spots for western history?

I concur with the suggestion for the Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody. It is superb.
I have also enjoyed the Ogden Union Station Museum in Ogden, Utah. Besides railroad artifacts, it has a good collection of weapons and a neat auto collection.
It is not in the area you asked about, however, if you ever get to Los Angeles, the Autrey Western Heritage Museum in Griffith Park is every bit as good as the Cody museum.
A lot of the little Utah pioneer towns have museums of their history. Some have regular hours, some are only open on request. Some are very good-some not so good. I went through the museum in Parowan, utah, a week or so ago. It is locally oriented but has a nice collection, including an original .45 caliber Colt Peacemaker in excellent conditon and a Winchester 73 carbine.

I'm not sure what's up that way but in New Mexico we bought a book of ghost towns and explored them. It was very interesting. Most were abandoned mining towns. We would drop by one as we were on our way to someplace else.
