I am going to remain anon for now, as I am sure to get a lot of negative remarks given the posts I have seen on this area!!

my parents have gone back 2 times now, love the Smoky Mountains, go to Biltmore, whatever else is scenic in that area.

I never asked them WHY they like it so much, but they've never mentioned that the sprawl kills them. (which is surprising cuz usually they cannot stand traffic and all that).

they've actually bought a time share which works all over the US as well as Europe, on their last visit there. I am supposing they are going to head back there at some point using that time share. They were actually considering buying a vacation home in the general area (Smoky Mts). I think they'll go to Florida for that though.

tell me what is good about this area? why do so many people hate it so?

Pigeon Forge is a place of horrendous consumerism, tackiness, and indulgence.

Pigeon Forge looks like a $5 whore in a photo of a bride with her bridesmaids.

It is much like Branson. Either you love it or hate it. I think most Fodors folks choose the latter although I admit that I have never been to either.
