Who has stayed at Treasure Island in Vegas Recently? Your Input Please!
A group of us will be visiting LV in late May/early June for six nights for an annual convention. Last year we stayed at the Mirage and we all found it congested and disappointing. We want to stay near the Sands Convention Center, but the Venetian has ridiculously high rates during our show. We are considering Treasure Island. I've stayed there twice, but in the mid-90's. Anyone stay there recently? Your opinions please.

We stayed there recently and it was still the old reliable, clean, nice, reasonable place that we stayed in before.
Contrary to what people think, it is NOT overrun by kids anymore. Which is nice. Problem is that pool: too darn small and not big enough for its guests. But if you're not pool people, then no skin of your <AWOOGA!>.

I think darvy meant "AH-OOO-GAH!", like a horn sound.
Lenore, if you found the Mirage "congested," I don't see why you'd like Treasure Island. Rooms are smaller than Mirage, pool is smaller, and because of construction part of the casino is closed off. I agree that the Mirage casino has some funky traffic patterns and not many good "aisles" between machines, but it's certainly not the clusterf*$k of Caesar's.
Venetian has high rates, but they also have 1200 square foot rooms.

I stayed at this hotel in 1995. It was big but not big by Vegas standards. Big crowds gather at night to watch the pirate ship show. People line up an hour id advance and it congests the enterances. I think so many show up because it is free. Many cheapos in Vegas but does that ever change?
It is centrally located for walking around business. Your usual smorgasboard of restaurants.
Here's a Vegas hint: get up early and there are rarely crowds to contend with.
Hope this helps!!!!!!!

Okay, apparently I was not clear. Unfortunately, we will be in Vegas for business not pleasure. The pool area is not important since it's unlikely we'll have any free time for lounging. The boss wants to stay as close to the convention center as possible. The Venetian's rates are $400/nt and above, so it's out of the question. I also doubt he'll spring for the petite suites, although they sure look nice on the website. We love Paris, but it's a little further than he wants. What we didn't like about the Mirage last year was that you have to walk through extremely congested areas to get to the elevators. Also, their bathrooms have very bad lighting and the rooms were rather dreary. Any more comments about TI from recent visitors? Thanks!

I was just there three weeks ago on my fourth visit. I personally love this hotel. It's not so big that I get lost and has a very nice day spa. I love the perfumed smell that floats around in the lobby. Rooms are nice sized and have have decor. Pool is currently closed for renovations but you can use the pool at the Mirage. Their buffet restaurant is just so-so. I recommend eating in their main restaurant which is busy all the time. They have a Madame Chings restaurant that requires reservations. They also have a Bucceneer Restaurant that serves steaks and the like but I haven't tried it.

Lenore, no matter where you stay, you will have to walk through some "congested" areas to get to your hotel -- the objective for all hotel-casinos is to get you to GAMBLE, so they force you to walk through at least a portion of the casino to get to your room.
Did you stay at Mirage before or after the rooms were redecorated? I stayed there two months ago and the rooms had been redone - very nice. TI rooms are small, but the bathrooms are quite nice.
FYI, I found Paris to be one of the most congested casinos on the strip, in terms of walking from point A to point B. I have not stayed there but have eaten breakfast there twice and gone to the top of the tower. Lots of crowds and tough traffic patterns.
