Which one? Kapalua Bay Hotel or JW Marriott???
We're going to have our honeymoon on January 2004, and we're looking for a place that we can do a little bit of everything around its area or close by cities. A property that secluded enough, but also not that far from the nightlife. We're looking at the Kapalua Bay Hotel and the JW Marriott. Are these good places? Has anyone visited these resorts? Please advice...

Stayed at both and would go for the Kapalua bay hotel. Did you know the Kapalua Bay is up for auction every week at luxurylink.com? You should be able to get 6nts oceanview & breakfast for about $1500. The views are unsurpassed (the best on Maui I think) and snorkeling is among the best. Used to stay at the Ihilani 2X per year until Marriott took it over. It's gone way down hill but others may disagree. Both hotels will take about 25 mins to get to the nightlife and attractions. Good luck.

I'm not sure I understand your post.
There's only one JW Marriott in the Hawaiian islands and it's on Oahu (as cnmiranda alluded to).
Are you choosing between Oahu and Maui?
Or do you mean you're choosing between the Marriott Kaanapali and the Kapalua Bay Hotel?

Have you thought about the Big Island? If nightlife isn't as important I think the resorts are pretty nice over there, more tranquil and relaxing than Maui plus they don't nickel & dime as much (many Maui resorts charge $25 & up for daily use of lawn chairs). Just about every resort over there is gorgeous. e.g. Fairmont, Orchid, Mauni Lani, etc not forgetting the much pricier 4S.

I absolutely love Kapalua Bay Hotel - my husband and I went two years ago for vacation and liked it so much that we returned for our honeymoon and actually liked the pool/view/experience more than the Four Seasons Wailea (which is really saying something).
It's only 10 minutes from Lahaina, so you can get to nightlife, but you definitely are in a more quiet part of the island. The pool has a 270 degree view of the ocean and is our favorite place on earth - I'd highly recommend!!
