Which of these hotels would you suggest?

Which of these hotels would you suggest?
Hello! My bf and I are planning a trip to NYC in August. I've been there once before and stayed at On the Ave and I loved it. However, in my research for this upcoming trip I found Affinia Dumont and it seems almost too good to be true - a larger room, with a view, for less money?? I was hoping you guys would be able to give me your opinions regarding the two hotels. Any information you could provide would be great!
If it helps, if we stayed at On the Ave we'd get either a Deluxe room or a Panoramic Deluxe (depending on what type of sale we can find!) If we stay at Affinia Dumont we'd get either a Junior Skyline Suite or a One Bedroom Skyline Suite.

Most people would prefer the location of On the Ave as it's close to Central Park; the upper west side is just a lovely area that people like. It alao has better subway connections than the east side where the Dumont is. That said, I think the Dumont is a nicer hotel overall, a newer building and all rooms are suites with kitchens. There are obviously a lot of other hotels besdides these 2. On the upper west side, the beaconhotel.com is very popular.

Agree that On the Ave is in a better area - more convenient to much of the city via subway and near Central Park and a bunch of the major museums.
If there are only two of you is a larger room that important? Do you really want a kitchen?
Look at some other places on UWS - beacon, lucerne, excelsior, etc.
(Bit to us, location is all)

On the Ave used to be my go to hotel. I loved the location and usually got what I considered a good price. My last three thrips, however, I have stayed at other places because the price at On the Ave was much higher. While I still prefer the UWS location, staying at other hotels, has allowed me to explore other parts of the city. I stayed last August at the affinia shelburne (close to the Dumont) and had a large room with a view of the city. I like affinia brand hotels and they often seem to have deals going on to reduce the prices even more. For me, as long as I am in somewhat of the central part of manhattan, I find it easy to get to wherever I'm going-and that was true of the Murray Hill area where both the Dumont and shelburne are located. If its a much better deal, I'd take the Dumont.

The Dumont is a very good hotel in a convenient location, near the subway and within easy walking distance to the Empire State Building. You might even have a view if you're on the right side of the building. In terms of convenience, there's a Dunkin Donuts downstairs, Duane Reade drugstore across the street, real supermarket a block away, and at least 6 or 7 really good restaurants within a 5-minute walk. I love the area around the Dumont, but it's more residential than the area around On the Ave.

We stayed at the Dumont last summer. We did have a view and did not pay for an upgrade for that. Found the staff very helpful, especially the concierge. Free wireless internet in the lobby. We noticed the free internet connection worked on some of our devices up in our room on the 20+ floor (but not all of them).
To add to Doug's list:
Second Avenue Deli--we can't compare but were told it was one of the best delis in the city. We loved the pastrami, the blintzes. Just around the block. http://www.2ndavedeli.com/
Cask--nice neighborhood restaurant and bar. Not expensive in our book, especially for New York.
Guy and Gallard--one short block away for good espresso drinks and breakfast/lunch items.Nice people too. I got up early and went every day for coffee if not more. A nice change to the ubiquitous starbucks.
New York Bagels and Cafe over on 1st. This is about 10 minute walk, and I only did it once but really good bagels & lox. 587 1st Ave. Be sure to check out the gorgeous Armenian church with the gold roof on your way.
