Which hotel of the 3?

We currently have reservations at Enchantment Resort, The Orchards Inn and Sky Ranch Lodge. I've seen several complimentary posts on this site regarding Sky Ranch Lodge but how does it compare to the other two? We don't mind spending the money for Enchantment if it is worth it.

Thanks.
Lynda

I don't know if this will help you but I have been asking the same questions on this site. From my research and from the posts on this site, I am going to go to Sky Ranch Lodge. We are going to Sedona in late July and are planning on being there for 3 days. I have not read a negative post on it. The area sounds nice and the price is fair. What one person likes, may not be what you would like. You have to keep that in mind when you ask questions on this site. I also use Trip Advisor and that helps. I wish you a great trip wherever you stay.

Thanks, so much, Froggy. I feel as though I've asked a lot of questions, but this is our first and only time to this area of the country and it probably will be our last--at least with all of us together so I want it to be as perfect as possible. I hope you and your family have a wonderful trip.

Lyntom,
We were in Sedona about 10 years ago and stayed at the Briar Patch Inn and thought it was wonderful. This time we thought we would stay at a place that had red rock views. The Briar Patch was near the river. Things change so much in Sedona with time shares and new hotels from what I have read that I hope we can recognize it. If you put in Sedona on the search part of this site you can come up with a lot of information about hotels and places to eat and what to do while you are there.
Have you ever been to Sedona? I wrote the chamber of commerce and they sent me a Sedona guide. I have been gathering information for our trip and would gladly share it with you.

Froggy: I am so glad you came to resolution about where to stay! I know how difficult your decision was, and how you weighed all the many options. Sounds like Sky Ranch will be a winner. Have a great trip, and as always, looking forward to my Sedona fix by reading your trip report.

Hi, Thought I'd chime in as we too are looking forward to a couple of nights in Sedona in September. Enjoyed reading the exchange of ideas here. It sounds like any of the three mentioned, as well as others, will all work for a good time. I hope so, as we chose the Orchards. Sky Ranch sounds like it should be a winner if you like be away from the town. We thought since we will have been out to Monument Valley and Canyon De Chelly, we'd go for intown at Sedona. It will be good to hear back from everyone who shares their vacation trip happenings. Wishing everyone a great time! Larry and Betty Ann

We stayed at Sky Ranch last year. It is very pretty. We faced a pond and it was lovely, sounds and surrounding. The room is very spacious, clean and a GREAT value. there is nothing fancy about the place, but it is very, very nice. Enchantment is a resort, so the experience wil eb quite different. we didn't stay in sedona to stay at a resort. we really just wanted to a nice place to sleep. when we stay at resorts, we almost never leave them. enjoy.

Thanks to all for your input. Froggy, it sounds as though you and I both have been obsessing about where to stay, etc. No, we have never been to Arizon before and are really excited about our trip there. I probably am trying to plan to many details, but with reservations needed so far in advance, it seems the thing you have to do.

By the way, I went to Enchantment's web site again last night and they are now offering the same room that I had reserved for $100 less. I called and they will let me have the cheaper rate.

I'm still debating though. Like another poster, we aren't going for the hotel room but to see and do. At the same time, though, I do really want a nice place and it sounds as though the Sky Ranch Lodge fits the bill. I will obsess a little more and then decide when the time gets closer.

Froggy, I would love to have any info. that you are willing to share.

Thanks again,

Lynda

Hi Lynda,
Well I sure do know where you are coming from when it comes to worrying about the right place to stay. We aren't going until the end of July and I always start early just in case I have to cancel if I find something else that I like better. I went through a lot of posts and sites to decide on Sky Ranch although now I am hearing good things about Orchards Inn too. Being it is the off season I think we can get good rates wherever we decide to stay. We are going to spend 2 nights at the Grand Canyon then drive down to Flagstaff to check out the Museum of Northern Arizona. Then drive to Sedona for the remainder of our trip. Since I have been researching this early I have decided Sedona would be our home base and we can go to areas around without a lot of driving. We will see Jerome (old mining town) and Cottonwood. Visit Montezuma's Castle and Slide Rock Park. What I did is get a map of the state to see what is around the Sedona area. Then I get out my tour books and start researching. I use Fodors and Frommers both for research plus I go on this site for advice and use the internet too. I went on to one bed and breakfast site and found a wealth of information as to how to plan your intinery in Sedona. The site is www.sedonainn.com. It's actually the site for the Inn on Oak Creek in Sedona which is nice but over our budget. If you need anymore help let me know. I may not have all the answers but I love to do research. I am a teacher so I spend a lot of time doing my lesson plans using the internet as my base for research. What is your home state? When are you planning to go? People have been warning me about how hot it is in the summer in that area so I have another thing to think about: what to pack! Although I have been there before, it has been quite a while so I am going to prepare for what ever weather comes up. Good luck and keep me posted as how you are doing with your planning.

Froggy,

I am from Covington, VA and am a former teacher. I now work for the Educational Foundation at our local Community College. I, too, have the Frommer's and Fodor's guides as well as "Arizona for Dummies". I have just about lived on the internet since March. I absolutely love to research things to death. We are going to land in Phoenix June 19 and will fly back home on the 26. Wish we had 3 more days; then, I think we could work in just about everything we want to see. Right now, the plan is to drive from Phoenix to Sedona for 2 nights then to GC for one night in the Kachina Lodge. From there we will drive to Page and do a float trip on down the Colorado and a tour of Antelope Canyon. Then, we'll drive to Flagstaff, stopping to visit the Cameron Trading Post, Sunset Crater and and the Wupatki Ruins. Next day, we'll vist Walnut Canyon and the Meteor Crater. If I can convince the rest to drive farther, we'll do the Petrified Forest, but I doubt it. Then, on to Phoenix for a night or two at the Phonenician before flying home. There is a chance that we'll drive to Flagstaff the first night and do everything in reverse. We plan to do a Pink Jeep Tour and Slide Rock State Park.

Where are you from?

Lynda

Lynda,
Looks like you and I are from the same page about research. Ever since I got my computer, that's all I do is look for stuff to do. I am from Trabuco Canyon, CA. That's a small city in Southern California. I teach 1st grade and love it.My friend told me that there a jeep tour that is very educational. Does the ruins etc. and the guide explains a lot about the area. Some of them are like a fast ride on a roller coaster. She is trying to find the name for me and when I get it, I'll pass it on to you. It sounds like you have planned a great trip. Are you traveling with kids? I hate to pass on anything educational or historical for a vacation with kids but I am a history buff and love searching for the older parts of a city. That is why we plan to visit Jerome and Cottonwood. Actually I have been to Virginia. We did a trip around the U.S. about 20 years ago with my daughter and we stopped in Virginia.
I love that part of the country. So much history and you have seasons!! Let me know at which place you chose to stay.

Froggy,
I think the name of the Jeep company you are talking about may be Pink Jeep Tours. We are going to do the Broken Arrow/Scenic Rim combo. The Broken Arrow is supposed to be very exciting.

I have two boys, 10 and 22. Almost anything we do will be ok with the little one, but the 22 year-old is harder to impress. That's why we're doing the rough jeep tour. Well, I like stuff like that, also. I'm also looking forward to the trip down the Colorado, although I wish it were whitewater. I, too, am a history buff and could tour "'til the cows come home" but I'm the only one in my family who feels that way.

We were in San Francisco about 24 years ago and drove down A1A to Monterey and Carmel. Absolutely loved it. Also flew into Sacramento and drove to Lake Tahoe about 16 years ago. That was heavenly (no pun intended since we took the lift to the top of Heavenly Valley Ski Area".

Yes, it is wonderful having seasons. We live in the mountains (near the WVA border) but are only about 3 hours from DC and Williamsburg and maybe 4 hours from the beach. I love it here. If you ever come back to VA, I'd be glad to give you some tips;
Hope your trip to Arizona is wonderful.

Lynda,
Vacation with 2 boys ,10 and 22, well you are a brave one! I am sure you will have a wonderful time. If you ever decide to come out to Southern California for a vacation, I'd help you out too with tips. We have everything from beaches to mountains here and you can go from one to the other in a day.

I thought the coast of California was one of our best vacations too. I enjoyed the aquarium in Monterey. Since our daughter is married now we have more time for deteors that we couldn't take when she went with us.

I hope you have a wonderful trip and bring back great memories with your boys.

Molly (Froggy)
Froggy is a nickname my family gave me because I have been bringing in frogs as class pets since I started teaching.
