Which hotel in Portland, Ore.?
I am traveling to Portland and am trying to decide between the Lucia, the Vintage Plaza, and the Hotel Monaco (formerly 5th Avenue Suites). My wife and I are in our late 20s and want a nice place in the heart of town.
Which one should we choose? Thank you!

If you are going soon, I'd avoid the Monaco because of the construction going on right now all along 5th Avenue. The Lucia and Vintage Plaza, both on SW Broadway, are right next to each other and both are nice and in good locations.

DH & I stayed at the Benson Hotel to celebrate our anniversary. We were able to walk to Jake's Famous Crawfish (our favorite restaurant for excellent seafood - make reservations!).
Powells' Books and the Portland Art Museum are also close by.

We will be at the Monaco for 5 nights next week. We have been over there several times this week, the noise cannot be heard inside the hotel, Portland is having a building boom as well as street and transportation work done..it is getting harder and harder to find a spot in town where there is nothing happening ..
If you don't want to risk the construction noise possibilities, the sister hotel is the Vintage Plaza and I personally really like the Lucia, though the rooms are tiny. ( this is why I love the Monaco-big suites)..

Agree with the previous poster about the Heathman, it is very nice. We stayed in the Symphony Suite last summer, the hotel is beautiful with a very good restaurant, our service was also excellent. Loved the French Press coffee in the rooms also. ***kim***

Don't miss the Pearl Bakery -2 blocks from Powel's Books.
Re: Benson--I love this hotel and have stayed there many times. However, it is beginning to look a little "worn" but I still love it...
As for prices---of course motel near airport are cheaper--convention center a litle more and downtown--if 4 star hotels---around $ 200
Be advised June is Rose Festival month and is "packed"-some booked year in advance....

Greetings from the Monaco Portland Hotel.
As I sit here in our King Suite, both flat screen tvs going lol (pup wanted to watch Dancing with the Stars) I want to watch House..I thought I would say hello and perhaps answer a question from the source, so to speak
It was raining when we checked in, we were whisked to our suite, pup had an amenities basket waiting for him, doggie cookies, dish etc..The new decorating is ok, I like more traditional prints, they went a little too busy for me but with the service and everything else, who cares how busy the wallpaper is?
We had a great time sitting by the fire during the complimentary wine hour..people came over to pet pup and stayed, it was a lively gathering for a while ..
Dinner was the Red Star, I am exhausted, watching those movers carry those heavy boxes was soo tiring.
The food was great, the Yankee was happy with the wine, that he tried at the tasting and had sent to our room.
I am snug in my hotel bathrobe that is brand new after a long soak in the tub with L'Occitane products.
So...I guess I would still recommend the Monaco Portland..
