Each beach town in Florida is very different from the next one. The best choice for you depends on what kind of experience you are seeking. Those are all very busy areas with a lot of people and plenty to do, but they wouldn't be good choices if you want peace and quiet. Miami is a huge city and offers the cultural and urban attractions (and traffic, etc.) commensurate with its size.

Depends on the traveler's wants. If you have any desires, state them. Otherwise, who knows?

My husband and myself want to relax on lovely beach, good food. I prefer smaller venues but that's difficult in FL. We have stayed at Grand Beach Hotel in N Miami which is quite nice, may do that if no new options presents itself.

Check listings for small places in Lauderdale By the Sea. Mom and Pop places, nice beach, accessible to Ft Lauderdale proper

Lauderdale-By-The-Sea.

Go to www.Sunny.org for great recommendations. They are mostly small, boutique, mom and pop places on a gorgeous beach with fantastic dining within walking distance.

As a plus, most have kitchenettes.

I'm a local btw.

I live just south of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea on Fort Lauderdale Beach. LBTS is nice in that there are NO high rise buildings; the beach there is just as nice as the beach outside here. There are PLENTY of restaurants in the area and many are quite good.

Not as much traffic as in Miami.

And no, smaller venues are NOT a problem in Florida...you've simply been staying in the wrong places.

Want really smaller? Really relaxing? REALLY remoter? Go over to Sanibel and Captiva.

go west...try Santa Barbara or Ventura (both around 100,000 pop)..or for much smaller, my town, Ojai (oh-hi..pop. 8,000). Florida just ain't my cup of pina colada!
