Which airline is best to fly to America

My daughter is looking at flights to San Francisco/LA from Scotland and is wondering which is the better airline - American Airlines or US Airways. Their prices are almost identical.
Can anyone advise?

While it's important to know what airline is actually operating those flights (i.e. are they codeshares) I'd choose AA over US all other things being equal.

You might want to post this on "airlines" board as well. Out of those two I'd vote for AA. I'd also certainly look into others such as BA, Virgin if she hasn't already.

Edinburgh? Glasgow? If US Air is one of the choices I'm guessing GLA.

In either case there are no direct flights to the US west coast, so she'll have to switch planes somewhere. The choices are likely to be London, New York (or Newark), Chicago or Philadelphia. Of the lot, I'd definitely pick Glasgow-Chicago-SF/LA on AA. Chicago is an easier US port of entry/customs/immigration site in most cases, and American flies Boeing 767 wide-body planes on the GLA-ORD route, unlike USAir or Continental (EDI-Newark) that use 757s - narrow bodies (2-4-2 seating in coach on the 767s, 3-3 on the 757s, so more aisle seats on the bigger planes.)

Thanks Gardyloo - thats really helpful.
They want to go from Glasgow.
BA only leave from London and are much more expensive.
