Just wondering where is the best economical place to stay for a visit to YNP? We would just be doing the driving/parking lot thing with short hike from the lots. Also, would there be any guided tours by bus there instead of us driving, and which would be the recommended one to hook up with? This would be for a summer or fall visit. Thanks.
Where's the best place to stay in Yellowstone?

If economy is an issue, my suggestion is to stay at 2 different places outside of Park - not just for cost of lodging but cost of food, etc.
West Yellowstone, MT has a large variety of chain hotels in a variety of price ranges, most very economical (we were measuring against East Coast city standards). Some come with breakfast included, refrigerator/microwave, and there are a variety of reasonably priced restaurants in town. Also good place to stock small cooler with provisions for lunch, snacks, drinks.
Gardiner is at northern end of Park and also has a number of lodging options.
The southern end is closest to Jackson, but that involves a drive thru Grand Teton (not a bad thing, just longer) and these hotels are likely to be more expensive.
Last but not least don't forget Cooke City MT area for a place to stay. Its an old mining town with a lot of history.

i would stay at one (two if possible) places IN THE PARK. We stayed at the Old Faithful LODGE cabins. Very good price, great location.
