Where to stay in or near San Simeon for one night?

We are a family of four - two adults, two teens. Planning to stay a night in or near San Simeon while visiting Hearst Castle on drive from San Francisco to LA. We need at least 3 beds (no sofa beds) so hotels with connecting rooms or apt style are great. We don't want to spend a lot of money since just one night (under $350) but a cute town we could walk around and have dinner near the coast would be great. Any thoughts on where to stay?

Don't know prices for your stay but we stayed at Beat Western Cavalier on the beach in San Simeon. I think the waterfront location would be great for the kids.

Look in Cambria and Morro Bay -- lots of properties w/ family rooms and suites. Both have places to eat etc.

I don't know your dates so hard to know rates - and if the one night is a weekend it could be a problem since many/most properties will have a 2 night minimum.

Plug your date in to booking.com

San Simeon Lodge is a fun place, nice location, classic old beachside motor inn and reasonable, if you end up needing two rooms.

We stayed at the Best Western Cavalier Inn and loved it, we had a room with a wood burning fireplace. So nice to hear the ocean at night.

There's no town at San Simeon though. If you want a town, look at Cambria or farther south.

Cambria is nearby. It is a cute little town with lots of lodging and dining options.

There's no town but there are a few hotels, a few spots to eat, and that beautiful beach. Fine for one night.

Does anyone know if the Captain Tinkerpaw site still exists in Cambria?

He was an outsider architect/artist who built a large environment from junk, famous in his time.

Thanks, janis.

I wasn't out to hijack the thread, just to suggest another reason to stay in Cambria!

Nittwit Ridge makes an interesting architectural comparison with San Simeon!

Apparently the Best Western Cavalier is a popular place. We stayed there, too. It will suit your needs. And if memory serves, there's a decent family restaurant adjacent to the hotel.
