Where to stay in NYC over Christmas

Is it too late to plan a trip to NYC for over Christmas itself--Dec 24 through 27? I don't really like to think of the bad economy working to my benefit--but are there deals to be had? I can do the usual checking with Marriot and Hilton. Thank you.

Those specific days might not be too bad - since a lot of people want to be home for the holiday itself. You can probably find some deals (in relation to usual Dec sky high prices) but don't expect huge bargains - that you would get in Jan/Feb/

You might check out betterbidding to see if people sare getting anythig on Priceline.

I was talking about this with a friend a week ago. From something like Dec. 23 to the 27, we saw rooms at the Paramount Hotel for $149. That's a steal! Yes, those specific dates (particularly the 24 and 25) can be very cheap and there is LOTS of availability.

Thank you nytraveler and NeoPatrick. I will look into this and post what I learn, if it is useful. Thanks again.

The new Hampton Inn in Soho has rooms for $169 for your dates (it appeared as a Travelzoo promo, but it works even without the promo code, which, if you need it, is TZO).

There's no reason not to book something cancelable now and keep an eye out to see if prices get better.
