Where to stay in FL for Feb/Mar '14

Thinking of a winter getaway for about a month. Keys? Ft Meyers? Where would we find the best weather?
We.re mid-60s, walkers, historical types, nature lovers. Don't sit a lot.

For the best weather, it'd most likely be the keys. We love Key West and it's a great walking town with lots of history, too.

Do trips to other areas.

The farther south you go, the better (warmer) the weather.

I like Key West, but I'm not sure it's the right place for two people in their 60s for a couple of months. I think of it more as a place for a short visit. To each his own, however.

Do you want beach? City? Town? On the cheap? Top dollar?

Anna Maria island is lovely and the weather is good that time of year.

vincenzo, my husband is 70 and I'll be there within months. We've spent between 4 and 6 weeks a year in Key West for about 20 years. Yes, we probably belie the general opinion that KW is a playground for younger people, but we've always loved it for tamer reasons

I spent five winters in Naples and loved every single minute of it.

I go to southern FL (West P{lam/Fort Lauderdale area) every year mid-Feb and often find it colder than I had hoped. So nothing more north than that if warm is important. Fort Myers, Marco Island or the Keys would be my choice - but not going to be inexpensive.

If the beach were important to me, I would not stay north of Ft Myers in those months.

In March, I would add Sarasota, Anna Maria, Siesta.

In April, St Pete and Clearwater. In May, I would go north.

I think Key West for a month would be fun for any age, especially if you are open minded. It's a great walking town with lots of history.

Another idea might be Hollywood Beach. It's is right on the water, with a nice broadwalk and restaurants. You are close to a stop on the Intercoastal Waterway, too. If I stayed there I would still take time to go down to Key West, too.
