Where to stay in Cape Cod?
I'm thinking about a summer trip to Cape Cod, flying into Boston and driving down. What are the best towns to stay in on the Cape? I would like to daytrip to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket and see a lot of the area. Between end of May and end of August, when is the best/worst time to go? Thanks for your suggestions!

I try to stay around the mid Cape. It's a good location for just about everything.
Went to see Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket and the Queen of towns, Provincetown.
I have a friend who used to spend her summers there every year in the family cottage. She took and early retirement and decided that's where she wanted to live.

me too, although Wellfleet is nice too and has the ponds.
August is a zoo to be avoided, though the water is warmer then. I would of those times choose June, unless you care that the water will still be very cool. And I would go midweek if possible.

Thanks! We'll probably rent a house/condo for the week (although I haven't looked into that at all yet). My first thought is to go the week of July 4th, but would it be better to go in June, or maybe August?

Ok, so not August. Is the week of 4th of July too crowded to enjoy?
We have a 7 year old and would like to base in one town. We prefer laid back and friendly with shops and restaurants, to upscale and snooty with art galleries. A calm beach nearby would be nice. It's ok if the water is cold; little one will probably just play in the sand and wade. I want to see it all and ferry to MV and Nantucket and maybe a whale watching trip. We would consider splitting the week between two places but if we rent a house, most prefer to rent for the whole week.
Based on all of that, where would be the best place to stay for the week, or would it be better to split the week? Thanks!
