Where to Stay in Boston Without Taking Out a Mortgage ...

I’ll be working in Boston in the waterfront area, and attending a show at the Hard Rock Cafe. I need a hotel for two nights – Sept. 10 & 11, andI was told to book something such as the Liberty Hotel, the Millennium, the Westin, the Intercontinental, Marriott long wharf, or the Renaissance.

Apparently, there’s something going on, because during those dates these hotels are approximately triple the price of other dates. There’s nothing under $650/night – with some as high as $850.

My plan is to take an all-day tour of the city on Thursday, 9/11. Can you suggest an area where I might get a reasonably priced hotel—and easily take public transportation to an area where I could get a tour?
