I haven't been to Boston in years and would like to stay there 2 nights on the way home from Maine. Is there an area that might be more convenient to stay? We will have a car & will arrive on a Sunday late afternoon. We'd like to see a few of the major sights. Thanks

Beacon Hill/Downtown area has most tourist sites that you'd most likely be interested in. Fanueil Hall/ North End might too.

Parking is going to cost you $$.

Use tripadvisor.com for your dates and see what comes up as far as price is concerned.

There are other booking sites too but at least tripadvisor will give you ball point prices.

Consider using hotwire. Learn how to figure out which hotel you might get by using betterbidding.com. But don't forget about taxes, fees and parking. $200 might be tough.

We were in Boston in May and stayed at the Hilton Back Bay. It was a great neighborhood for walking and lots of great restaurants and shopping within walking distance. We used our Hilton points so don't know what the price would be during your dates, but probably a little over $200.

I have had great luck with Priceline and hotwire for Boston hotels. I bud four and a half stars in Back Bay and the Theatre dupistrict, which are where I prefer to be based during a visit. Haven't bid over $150. Parking is quite expensive.
Have fun, it is a wonderful city.

Parking is expensive and difficult - Boston has a TON of areas where parking is limited to resident vehicles.

I realize parking will be expensive. We're going to have a car, so we will have to pay to park. Sometimes when we are on a driving trip and hit a big city we find a lot nearby and have left the car in a lot and taken the metro into the city. I haven't checked to see if that's doable in Boston.

Last minute travel is also good for Boston. The hotels are not indentified but you can usually figure it out from the photos and description. Also if you zoom in on the map the hotel comes up.

Check boston.bestparking.com for parking rates.

Hotel prices can vary greatly day to day depending on what's going on in town.

Back Bay, Boston Common, and Quincy Market/harbor are all convenient. Boston is compact and easily navigated on foot or by using the subway.

What about staying outside of the city in a hotel that's walkable to the T (subway)? That way you don't have to pay crazy parking fees and the hotel may be cheaper as well.

I bought the baseball tickets first and then booked this and then did the air. Someone on here recommends this place and they were sold out except for the deluxe room but still cheaper than many other places in Boston. Love this area. Four nights in Sept and then on to Maine.

I would not wait to book. We are seeing some very high prices for parts of August. Most of the last minute travel listings have a status of "on request" rather than "available" people report little success with actually getting the "on request" listings in Boston.

You could also stay in Cambridge at a hotel that is close to red line, which would provide great access to the city. Prices may be better than Boston proper. Just be sure to inquire about the charge for parking - that could easily be $50/day

You will get many Fodorites to bad mouth restaurant week, but not me as we have had good quality meals during that week.
