where to stay for the day before na early LAX flight?

Hi,
We will be spending a week (in 2 weeks) in San Diego, etc, but flying home out of LAX.
We will be able to spend the whole last day at a hotel if it has "resort features." Or we can just "crash" the last night, after doing other things.
Any ideas on how to spend the last day with a very early, next morning, flight from LAX?
We are willing to sepnd up to about $300. for the last night- though cheaper would be beter....
I was thinking Santa Monica Loews- but we are open to other suggesions.

If it's only to sleep I would stay at the Motel6 near the airport. They have a shuttle service and the rooms are fine. They also have a restaurant.Paul

If you are going to spend the day, try the Crowne Plaza Redondo Beach. Across the street from the ocean and pier. Nice pool. Redondo has a nice downtown with shops and restaurants. Should hit your price point. 20 minutes from LAX with shuttle.

With a "very early, next morning, flight from LAX", get an airport hotel on Priceline and spend your money on "doing other things."

The 4* Westin LAX is going for $60. A 3* would be even cheaper and entirely adequate for a "crash".

We stayed at the Crowne Plaza at Redondo Beach before a flight out of LAX - well, a friend had a flight, I had a nice long drive back to San Jose - LOL. It worked out well though. We weren't very far from the airport, and the hotel was very nice in a good location. We were coming up from San Diego as well, checked in about 4, wandered around a bit, had dinner, and then spent the evening in the pool. The beds were VERY comfortable so we got a really nice sleep.

The Manhattan Beach Marriott is only minutes from LAX (probably has a shuttle) and has a 9-hole golf course, if that interest you at all. It is also 5 minutes from the beach.

Other nice options:
near the beach: www.shadehotel.com
on the beach: www.beach-house.com/hermosa-beach-hotels.html
on the harbor: www.hotelportofino.com (newly renovated)
Boutique hotel a couple of miles from the beach: www.thebelamar.com
www.belamar.com

Marina del Rey might also work for you. There is a Ritz Carlton there, and also a Marriott.

I guess I have two questions... do you have a car and are you looking to DO something the last day? Personally, I would stay at the Loews Santa Monica... you can walk to the beach for the day, sit my the pool, grab dinner on 3rd street promanade, stroll Montana or take a ride up the PCH to cap off with typical la views. I don't think they have a shuttle to the airport though. And in traffic the ride could be tough, but if you have to be to the airport early and return a car, before 8 am its a 20 mins ride.

I agree with one of the posters above. Since there are a tons of hotels near LAX, you can always get a nice 4 star hotel on Priceline in that area for under $60-70 (Westin, Renassance, Sheraton, etc). And it's only a 10 minute drive to Santa Monica.

Just two weeks ago I bid $60 for a 4* LAX hotel but I ended up paying $77 + tax. That's still not too shabby for the 4* Sheraton LAX. Priceline is great.
