Where to stay Charleston SC

hi-
I'm running away from my hubby and kids and taking a solo last minute trip to Charleston in a week or two. thinking of staying in the city for two nights to sightsee and then to kiawah island for two nights for beach, spa and r&r. looking at planters Inn or charleston place for lodging in the city. Opinions? Want good walk to location, safe, attentive service and someplace thats luxurious and quiet.

thanks

Wentworth is an excellent option. All three have great restaurants on site and are safe to walk.

Kiawah has one (fabulous) hotel: the Sanctuary. It's right on the beach. It's about 45 minutes into Charleston.

The Planters Inn is a fabulous hotel affiliated with Relais & Chateaux. You will not be disappointed. Their location is on the city market yet when inside, the hotel is very quiet. If you chose to stay at the Planters Inn, you must try the Coconut Cake from the Peninsula Grill located on their property.

Planters or Wentworth, still can't decide. Just keep starting at their websites. I am thinking the cocktail hour at wentworth would be nice since I am travelling solo. And the room included more. But are the rooms dark? I need lots of sunshine and light. And I am doing two nights in Kiawah after this

Have you called them? The Spoleto Festival is currently underway, which means rooms could be hard to find. Ask about the light in the rooms.

I don't know where you're from, but the sun is strong this time of year, especially by the water. You'll get lots of sun and light.

I love sun and light, being a new englander.
Both have rooms at this point, I've really got to decide.

When I stayed at the Wentworth a couple years ago, our room was great and did have several windows and nice light. I was there in late Fall so I imagine the light would be very bright this time of year.

I adored the Planters Inn when I stayed there. Wonderful service and the location can't be beat. I would love to return.

Let us know what you pick. I think you'll be happy at either.

Sue, it will be interesting if it is during Spoleto. Pull the trigger--if you can afford it. LOL

I ended up at planters inn bc I just wanted to be right in the middle of things. So I did two nights there and then two nights at the sanctuary on kiawah. Both were great.
