Where to stay betwen Tempe & Glendale?
Hi all,
I would appreciate your thoughts on this. A group of buddies and I are planning a LONG "guys weekend" in November. We will be seeing the ASU football game on Saturday, AZ Cardinal Game on Sunday and golfing at least once (probbaly twice) during this time. We also would like to visit the local night time hot spots & enjoy a great steak/red wine/cigar & brandy dinner. Any suggestions as to where we should stay that is centralized and places we should dine?
Our thoughts are to stay SOMEWHERE in Tempe, within walking distance to the college game and local spots and taxi it to the Cardinal game and golf. However, we are not really sure where that should be.
Any help will be appreciate.
Thank you!

I stayed at the Mission Palms in Tempe.
Excellent hotel right downtown and within walking distance to everything and stadium.
I give it a 10.
Great restaurants across the street.

If I recall, I was able to book this hotel cheapest through their site or over the phone. Expedia was higher than they were.
Suggestion. Ask for a room facing the courtyard. Our 1st night we had a room that overlooked one of the (nice) local bars. It was loud at night. They gladly moved us the next day.
We even had checked out only to get to the airport to find out flight cancelled due to weather. We called them right away and got the room we just checked out of back.

Thanks folks! I cannot believe that I COMPLETELY forgot about the Mission Palms! I was there about 2 years ago for a work conference. It was one of those 2 day, all work, no play things. I did not even leave the property. But I do remember that it was a very nice place. I'm all over it.
Any suggestions on restaurants?

We ate 2 times at the brewery like place (2 stories) that is almost right next to the hotel but across the street. Great food and it was fun to sit outside on the 2nd floor and people watch while we ate.
There was also a great place in downtown Scottsdale called The Tortilla Factory. You know you have the right one if there is a big fountain in a courtyard setting and a huge tequila bar.
We also ate at the cowboy type steakhouse a few miles away. Very good food. If I can find the name I will add to this post.

This place was great. Also be sure to check out the dualing piano bar across from the Hotel.
The Big Bang...its a blast.

I agree with the Mission Palms suggestion for hotel.
As for restaurants in Tempe, within walking distance, I'd recommend (in general, not necessarily brandy & cigar atmosphere, though): Gordon Biersch (brewery, menu has unusual but very good fare), Rula Bula (Irish bar, great food), Ra (sushi), Monti's (great steak and rosemary bread, not sure of the wine list quality).
As for taking a taxi to the Cardinals Stadium, dude, it's cheaper to rent a car! While it is an easy freeway drive as bigtyke said, it's quite a haul and could be quite expensive, especially when you figure you have to get back to your hotel afterward!
