Where to Stay Between Dallas and Little Rock

After we arrive at DFW Airport at about 4:00 p.m., we want to get on the road toward Little Rock. Where would be a good place to spend the night about 100-150 miles on the road along the way?

Texarkana is 177 miles from DFW airport. If you get in at 4:00, you are going to have to get across Dallas during rush hour traffic (if M-F) so that is going to take you longer.

Sulphur Springs is right at 100 miles from DFW airport on I-30. We have a new Holiday Inn, La Quinta and Hampton Inn---all built in the last couple of years.

To get around Dallas during rush hour, I suggest going out the north entrance of the airport. Go east on 635 E. In a few miles, you will see the George Bush Turnpike (toll). Go north. This will look like a long way around Dallas but I-30 through Dallas at that time of day will be a parking lot. The tollway is usually not crowded even during rush hour. The tollway will run into I-30 in Rowlett/Garland (east side of Dallas) just before Lake Ray Hubbard. Traffic may be a little slow across the lake but once you get east of Rockwall you should be clear.

I live in Sulphur Springs and been faced with rush hour traffic after leaving the airport several times and this has been the best option.

Sulphur Springs would be closer. Make reservations at both cities and then cancel at one of them after you get going and see how you feel, traffic, etc. DO MAKE SURE of cancellation policies. Hopefully, they would be at 6:30pm, giving you time to decide. Might depend if you want to eat somewhere in Dallas or not. Connie is right- Traffic on 635 and 75 intersection can be brutal on occasions. Could cost you an hour easy .

Connie,
Do they actually charge now on the George Bush? I don't think i've ever paid anything on it.

I might even take 121 all the way north to Mckinney and then head east.

They do charge but you don't pay at a booth--they mail you a bill.

Thanks for the heads up. We have that system on a bridge in Seattle (and one south of Tacoma) for those who haven't purchased a pass.

I guess you lucked out. It seems like the cost of mailing me a bill would eat away most of their profit! Hwy 121 also has some sections that are toll and you never know it. You just get a bill (unless you have toll tags).

Consider adding time for baggage claim, renting a car, grabbing something to eat, THEN hitting the road ...... there is SO MUCH construction around the airport coupled with rush hour, you'll be forever getting out of town.

it may be less stressful to just sit tight in Dallas/Irving or Grapevine until the next morning, then head out.
