We'll be driving to St. Louis for just one night. Looking for nice area where we might stay and be able to walk to dinner. Don't need late night party access, just an nice spot where we can have a lovely dinner (and perhaps a bit of shopping). Suggestions for hotel and/or restaurant? We like creative contemporary cuisine. Thanks, annie

Chase Park Plaza is in the Central West End within easy walking distance of restaurants and shopping.

Be careful about riding the public transportation, monorail system. We were attacked while riding around 11 pm by a gang. Our sons were beaten. We stupidly sat in a car with no other people, and the gang members came on and attacked us. If you must ride on one of these, go to a full car where the conductor is nearby.
I would second the Central West End suggestion. The Chase is lovely with its own good restaurants & a movie theatre. Downtown St Louis has good hotels & if you enjoy baseball, it might be fun to catch a game. The stadium also has a hotel connected to it. The Central West End & Downtown you can easily walk or take a cab & won't need to ride the metro.
