where to stay and eat in Bennington Vt

As part of my planned ski trip to Vermont for xcountry skiing, someone recommended Prospect Mountain near Bennington. What are some good places to stay and eat in the Bennington area?

Mark, I'm originally from the Bennington area and still have lots of family there-that said, I can't give you any first hand accommodation advice as I've never had to stay in a hotel there. BUT, I can tell you that we recently put people up at the Best Western New Englander and the Paradise for my sister's wedding, and we heard no complaints. The Best Western is located on a busy strip with some shopping/restaurants within walking distance. The Paradise is on Main Street-the restaurant that was on premisis has unfortunatly closed. For restaurants, try the Blue Benn Diner for breakfast-expect a line though. I like Carmody's and Madison's, both on Main Street for casual bar/pub type food and atmosphere. Bennington Station is good for a nice evening out. Have fun!

About 1/2 hour north is the very charming town of Manchester, with lots of great places to stay (Equinox, Wilburton Inn, 1811 House, many more, depending on your needs). Wild Wings in Peru, Vt. (about 20 mins. from Manchester) is great for xcountry skiing.

You night try the Kirkside Motor Inn. Room are not large, but beautifully decorated. Ask for one of the rooms upstairs at the front. Madison pub is as good a place as any for dinner. Try the turkey hash for breakfast at Blue Benn's.
