Where to stay
After researching the web for days I am more confused than ever. Where is a good place to stay within walking distance to everything without spending a fortune in NY City? Is it better to stay in a smaller hotel? The reviews for the larger hotels haven't been that good.

I recommend The Gorham Hotel on West 55th Street. It's a lovely boutique style hotel and you cannot beat the location. You can walk to Central Park, 5th Avenue. Rockefeller Center, the theater district and more. Near good restaurants, too. Check out their website at www.gorhamhotel.com

This hotel isn't as "nice" as the Gorham, but take a look at the DaVinci: http://www.davincihotel.com/about.htm Excellent location (walk to CP, Rockefeller Center, Theaters, Bloomingdales, Lincoln Center, FAO for toys . . . etc) and, I found the hotel to be very clean. Rates are approximately $95-$125 last time I checked. Let us know what you find!

I stayed at the Sheraton Towers on 7th Avenue and really loved the location. The hotel was also quite nice but the location was fabulous. I received this hotel on hotwire.com and would recommend both that website as well as the hotel itself. I also stayed at the Hyatt Eastside once but didn't care for this location as much as the Sheraton. Good Luck.

You should try a priceline. Check out biddingfortravel.com. The areas of midtown east and midtown south are convenient to lots. so would midtown west, but that's the times sq area and it's very chaotic there. nowhere is walking distance to everything unless you want to spend significant amounts of time walking. Southern central park to the financial ditrict is about 5-6 miles. you can get 4* hotels for about $100 on priceline.
