Where to stay 3 nights to see Yosemite from Death Valley?

We are two active seniors traveling the second week of June, 2017. Flying into Las Vegas and spending the first night there. We have four nights to spend before going to Sonoma Valley. My DH wants to drive through Death Valley. We have reservations for 3 nights (Wednesday, Thursday & Friday) at Double Eagle Spa in June Lake. Our 4th night is not committed at this point.

After reading other posts I am now wondering if we should reconsider our June Lake stay. Although we have been to Yosemite NP many years ago, we plan to revisit the area this trip. We like the idea of staying out of the hustle and bustle (hence our selection of June Lake) but dread slow going traffic to see Yosemite. Since we'd be in the park mid-week, would the travel time be more tolerable? Any day trips you'd recommend out of June Lake if we decide to not tackle the traffic &/or the Tioga Pass Rd is closed due to snow? We enjoy scenic drives, photography and 2 mile easy-moderate hiking.

Thanks!

If the Tioga Pass is still closed, go to South Lake Tahoe or somewhere in the gold country south of Placerville on Rt. 49.
There is a huge amount of snow in Yosemite now and more is on the way. The waterfalls in Yosemite should be flowing well into July this year.

If the roads are clear, traffic to get to Yosemite Valley from the eastern entrance will not be a problem. Congestion inside the Valley is another matter.

The Eastern Sierra Nevadas are my favorite area of the US. Just make sure to visit the Alabama Hills near Lone Pine (you might want to pick up a guide that highlights Hollywood filming locations0, the tufa spires at Mono Lake, Hot Spring, Convict Lake, if you'd like to go to a secluded spot to soak then Hilltop Tub, there are Indian petraglyphs in the area, the Bristlecone Pine Forest. The beauty here is astounding.

Thanks for all the input.

I guess, we will stick with June Lake and play it by ear.

IF Tioga Pass is open, I suppose getting to Tuolumne Meadows & Tenaya Lake would be a doable part of Yosemite for a day.

Shelemm, thanks for the tip on Alabama Hills!
