Where to spend a month in November?
OK. Here's the scoop. My husband and I have recently found ourselves with 6 weeks to kill in November / December (basically due to relocating). But, we have no idea where to go. We've basically decided what we want to do, but have no idea WHERE we should do it. So I need your help!
Ideally, this is what the 4 to 6 weeks would consist of:
1. Staying in one location the whole time in a vacation rental
2. Preferably the vacation rental is on the water - this can be the ocean, a lake or a river - the mountains would be OK too.
3. This vacation rental would be located very near to a nice small town (somewhere between 5,000 and 25,000 people)
4. The weather would be nice fall-type weather - i.e. not too hot, not too cold.
5. Location would be somewhere in the US.
6. Ideally, there would be a number of places to go for "day-trips" - i.e. within a 2 hour drive away.
I think that's it. Please, please, please give me your suggestions. We really do have no idea where we should go.

I suggest Charleston, SC and Savannah. Also in the area are Beaufort and islands off the Georgia coast such as Amelia, Jekyll, and St. Simons. Hilton Head would be a good choice too. I do not have my map in front of me but I think any of these places would be a good starting point. The weather is nice over the holidays so I expect it would be pleasont during November. Hope this helps.

Possibly Gulf Shores, AL? Weather should be nice that time of year. Lots of options for condos and beach houses that time of year. Not crowded that time of year. Are some day trips that you could make and things you could do, depending on your interest.

The San Francisco Bay Area perhaps. You could stay out at the beach and day trip into the City, Sonoma County, Napa. You could go over to the East Bay and do Jack London Square, go to the wineries in the Livermoore Valley. You could take drives up and down the coast or go to the Russian River area. You could go up to Sacramento and go to old town. And probably a zillion other things I haven't thought of.
