Where to live in eastern Connecticut...

My husband and I are looking at the possibility of being transferred to eastern CT for work -- the New London/Groton/Mystic area. If you could live between Groton and New Haven, Groton and Hartford or Groton and Providence, RI, where would you choose?

We want to not have to drive too far to work, but there is not a whole lot in Groton/New London, so we want to be close to another large town.

Any thoughts?

My brother lives in Stonington, which, in essence, is Mystic. It's a beautiful little town.

Southeastern CT is really nice. Other great towns pretty close are East Lyme, Lyme, Old Lyme and Old Saybrook. Mystic is a great town as well.

Another great bunch of towns are up route 9: Chester, Deep River and Essex. All these towns are in good location to all three cities but have the feeling of being small New England town.

I've lived in central CT most of my life and just settled down in East Lyme and I love it!

Lots of quaint towns in that area. I did a trip there a couple of years ago and agree that Old Lyme and Essex are too cute for words. The quintessence of old New England.

One of my friend was based in the Naval Submarine Base in Groton. He lived in Stonington, really nice, pretty and quiet. It's also quick and easy to drive up to PVD to fly out.

We lived in Groton (based there) and would not recommend it, lol! All the places already mentioned are much nicer. Another small town right near there that a lot of friends lived in and really liked, is Ledyard.

Another vote for Essex! It is a great town.

I would second Old Saybrook, Old Lyme, and Chester.
