Where to go to hear good Hawaiian Music in Kauai?
I'd originally posted this as part of SongDoc's thread, but thought I might get more response if I posted it as a new thread:
We'll be in the Princeville area Sept. 5-9 and are considering going to a Slack Key Guitar concert at the Hanalei Community Center -- either the Legends of Slack Key Guitar & Ukulele Concert on Fri., Sept. 5, or the For the Birds - Slack Key Guitar & Ukulele Concert on Sun., Sept. 7. Which of these is better? We'll then be in the Poipu area Sept. 10-14. Are there any (other) shows of Hawaiian music (including at bars or restaurants) that you'd recommend given our itinerary? Mahalo.

This doesn't answer your question, but ... the instant I get to Kauai I put "Journey of Hawaiian Slack Key" (by Makana) in my car stereo. Only then am I officially in Hawaii! They sell it at the CD stand outside the Foodland in the Princeville Shopping Center.

You might like to go to the show at the Hyatt on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. They have the torchlighting ceremony followed by hula (Tuesdays and Saturdays they also have the keiki hula). Always liked to do this, followed by a nice dinner at Tidepools and after dinner drink at Stevenson Library.

Never had a problem parking, there is both valet and self park.
You also might like to check out Tahiti Nui's in Hanalei, some of the musicians that were in the movie "The Descendants" play there, lots of scenes shot there.

Keli'i Kaneali'i (the "other" original member of Hapa) is known to play around the island. We've seen him at the aforementioned Tahiti Nui. He's good. VERY good. I hear he will only play if Kal isn't there on Beau's stool.
We also have enjoyed the music and hula at Mediterranean Gourmet.
