Where to go in January?
Hi,
Sorry, I accidentally posted this in the Florida postings.....
I have a free ticket with Continental and it has to be used by Jan 31 and has to be anywhere within the 48 states. It will be my husband and I and we're looking for ideas of where to go in January for about 4 days. We are flying from New Jersey. We're up for any suggestions.
Thanks in advance!!!

Try Austin Texas - weather can be fairly pleasant, lovely hill country, and 6th Street Music. You never know when you might see a "Star".
My other suggestion would be Taos, New Mexico - there is a Indian reservation there you could visit and walk through - amazing! And lots of artists (see Doug Scott - http://www.themarblesculptor.com/ )- awesome artist, and when he's around his shop - which is on the way to Angle Fire - he will invite you in for a chat!!!
All this within 20 minutes of the mountains.
My husband and I DROVE there from Houston, one Thanksgiving weekend - we had a blast!

With just 4 days, try to stick with non-stops and shorter flights as you don't want to spend a lot of time in airports. You don't indicate if you want a beach/resort or city vacation. San Francisco would be a good place for 4 days for example if you wanted a city vacation. A little bit of a longer flight, but doable IMO.
Continental has a non-stop to Ft Myers, Fla from Newark. I have been there at Thanksgiving and the weather is great, still warm and sunny. I think early December would be good too. It may be a little cool in January for sitting by a pool or beach, but is good golf weather and certainly beats NJ weather in Jan.
CO also goes to Miami non-stop from Newark, so the Keys would be doable.
Check the CO website for their non-stops and weather.base for temps for the coming months.

didi-Since you are in New Jersey are you looking for something warm? If that's what you want, Florida would be your best bet followed by Arizona. San Diego can be beautiful in January or it can be chilly and rainy. The suggestion of doing a non-stop flight is a good idea for a 4 day trip.

smartcookie,
If you read Binthairs posts, unfortunately, I think he/she was for real.
There is a group out there that thinks that Houston is the best city in America, if you can believe that. I tried having meaningful discussions with them, to no avail. Their head is stuck in the sand on this one, and there is no convincing them otherwise.

smartcookie,
You have to remember that food, culture, European feel, laid back atmosphere, all-night nightlife, and friendly people don't appeal to Binthair.
Strip malls, 12 lane freeways, immense parking lots, and climate controlled malls appeal to Binthair, or at least that's what I can derive from the posts about how great Houston is.
