Where to Go After Jackson Hole?
We plan on visiting some friends in Jackson Hole for 3 or 4 days. Since we are coming all the way from Florida, we want to combine this with a visit to a nearby city or area for 3 or 4 days. What would work with Jacson Hole?

I agree with HowardR, Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons will take up 3 or 4 days very easily. If you have to have a city, then Cody, WY and Red Lodge, Montana come to mind.
If you want a BIG city then Salt Lake City is 270 miles away.

Our family (2 kids ages 10 & 11) drive from gulfcoast area of Texas all the way to Jackson Hole Wyoming, on to South Dakota, and then back down to Texas in 2 weeks. LOVED IT! I can give lots of details if you're interested. My brother lives in a small town about 30 miles west of Cody Wyoming. So, we've made the Wyoming trip and Yellowstone 4 times, 3 without kids, and one with. No place on earth like Yellowstone!
Starting in Jackson Hole - be sure to take tram ride up to top of Teton Mtns. Well worth trip up!
From Jackson Hole to Yellowstone (South Entrance) it's about 30 miles, but takes longer if you cut thru the scenic route thru Grand Teton Nat'l Park. Worthwhile, it's gorgeous! No place to stay but one at South Entrance. It's called Flagg Staff Ranch and it's expensive considering accommodations not that nice! CLean but NOT fancy! SO, best bet is to stay in Jackson Hole than head out early for Yellowstone.
I suggest seeing all the sights in the southern region of Yellowstone and make your way westward and spend the night in West Yellowston, lots of hotels and food there! You can then choose to cut thru middle of Yellowstone and head for the East entrance and head out to Cody, Wyoming if you want a western flare! BUt, you'll be cutting out 1/2 of Yellowstone! And it's gorgeous! THe northern region is where there's alot of wildlife. By going thru the center of Yellowston, you will get a chance to see some gorgeous waterfalls. It just depends on what you want. If you're taking kids, 2 days of Yellowstone is plenty, they get bored fast! They get to a point where you've seen one elk or buffalo, you've seen them all! Plus, gorgeous landscape bores them too after awhile. Cody, Wyoming I love! They have a western shoot out every nite about 6pm, the kids liked that! If you're into western, you'll love it!
HOpe this helps!

I wish people wouldn't say that other peoples kids will get bored with something...it really depends on the kid.
On the other side of the coin, we took our boys several times to Yellowstone and usually stayed a week and didn't get bored. They always loved Yellowstone and they loved traveling.

We also stayed a week between the Tetons and Yellowstone--it was one of our favorite vacations. The kids were 11, 8 and 5 and they didn't even realize there were no TVs in our rooms! The late summer days were great for viewing wildlife--it's not really dark until 10. IMO, the Tetons provide some of the most beautiful scenery in the world.

You're right on Jayne with that comment about the Teton!
I just want to correct a statement that mlarson made above. If I understand him/her correctly he/she is saying that there's no place to stay in the Grand Teton other than Flagg Ranch. Wrong, there's several others including Jackson Lake Lodge, Jenny Lodge, Signal Mountain Lodge and Colter Bay Village.

What I said was there's no other place to stay close to the South Entrance of Yellowstone, not Tetons.
Sorry, if I misled anyone, but I think everyone knows their own kids well enough to know what they enjoy or get excited about. Mine are city brats, so maybe that has something to do with it. But, I must say I heard other kid's comments while on vacation when spotting animals (you always know when there's an animal spotting, there's tons of people/cars stopped), so there would be lots of people around and I'd hear other kids making comments too.
