Where to find ROMANTIC Kauai in January??

Now I can get excited. My husband and I have agreed to spend 7 or 8 nights on lush green Kauai in January! Woooo-hoooo!

Please share with me YOUR idea of where to find the BEST of ROMANTIC Kauai in January? Accommodations, food, special experiences?

We preferred the lush green north shore of Kauai on our first trip, but that was in June (20 years ago.) But this trip is JANUARY. I know its rainier with bigger surf. I'm still torn between staying on the north shore the whole time, or splitting the stay with 4 nights on the north shore and 3 or 4 nights on the south shore.

We like nature walks, beautiful scenery, scenic drives or walks, snorkeling if conditions are safe, peace and tranquility, unspoiled spots, and searching out friendly, casual spots to eat with yummy local food. We definitely want to explore the north shore, Na Pali coast, and Waimea Canyon. We will have a car and want to explore the island. (No surfing for us.)

I've been looking at the Sealodge at Princeville on the north shore...some of those units have amazing views! Although some guests on tripadvisor reviews complained about having to keep the windows shut at night due to so much rain and windy weather. Naturally I'm picturing warm tropical nights with the windows open and the sound of romantic crashing surf...

Thanks, I look forward to hearing about YOUR favorite romantic Kauai (in January)!

There's no place like the North Shore no matter what time of year you go. We've been the last few years in Jan/Feb and have had wonderful weather and mild surf.
We've stayed at Sealodge and enjoyed it but the units are a bit small although plenty of room for 2 people. I suggest you also take a look at Pu'u Poa, Pali Ke Kua and Hanalei Bay Villas.

Walking along Hanalei Bay anytime of day, anytime of year is my idea of romantic, especially when a rainbow appears across the pali.

My husband & I absolutely love Kauai, the North Shore and the Sealodge condos! We have been to Kauai twice, May 2007 & August 2007 and both times we have stayed at the Sealodge. We stayed in the D7 and D8 unit. We never closed the windows at night but we weren't there in "winter" when it tends to be rainier.

We have been wanting to get back there ever since our trip and are hoping to make it happen in 2011. We have our eye on the C8 unit: http://hestara.com/c8.htm or B10 unit: http://hestara.com/b10.htm
We did have a booking with Hestara but had to cancel due to my husband getting laid off from work. I wanted to say that the lady, Geri, whom I exchanged emails with regarding the reservations is very nice. The reservation process is very simple & laid back. Only $250 is required to reserve a unit and the remainder of the balance is due 30 days prior to your trip. She was really nice to work with.

Enjoy!

I recall a certain cottage in Hanalei with a lovely front lanai and day bed that was especially romantic, more so during a day of torrential rain!

No such place exists!

It was actually better in the rain, wasn't it?

Thanks everybody! We have decided after all to head for Costa Rica this January (if we can find accommodations available) and save Kauai for a June trip (or a future January trip.)
Our trips are always in January, June/July, or September.

I have been reading about Kauai and what I loved best about Kauai seems to be true mainly for Kauai summers. However I would still consider Kauai for a future January trip as our January weather in San Diego is rainy but its a cold rain and gloomy.

It's only November and I'm already sick of any rainy and gloomy days we have here. That's one reason we decided to head for Costa Rica (Bosque del Cabo) in January after all if they have space!

So the Kauai info everyone has been sharing is going in my Kauai file as we will definitely return there another time! Thanks!
