As a born and raised Midwesterner, I'd love to hear your thoughts about what restaurants we got right (or wrong) and what new ones you'd love to try. I'm personally a big fan of Pi's Lincoln Park pizza (http://www.restaurantpi.com/) and Pappy's (http://pappyssmokehouse.com/) in St. Louis.

It might depend on how often you visit a city. I only visit St. Louis about every 2 years(have been a dozen times or so over the past 20 year). I think Bogarts and Pappy's area about as good BBQ as it gets anywhere. Since you mentioned pizza, what about Deweys? Drewes Custard is pretty iconic. Crown Candy is somewhere that I like. I always try to eat somewhere in the Italian area(The Hill), I think Charlie Gitos would be my favorite. Missouri Baking on the hill would be a must, IMOP.
I am actually planning a trip to St. Louis over the 4th. I plan on watching the fireworks and I have reserations at The Hyatt(right near the Arch-to avoid traffic). However, they are unable to guarantee me a spot to park my car- I'm not talking free parking, I'm talking even paid parking. So, I'm a bit concerned and considering cancelling the whole thing.
spirobulldog, check out the Drury Inn downtown. It is in a beautiful historic building, and there's a parking garage next door. The Drury offers a wonderful breakfast spread, and a sumptuous cocktail hour, too. It is very close to the Arch.
I agree with Dewey's, in Kirkwood and Webster Groves. And Drewes Custard is a must-do.
There's another Drury Inn by Union Station. I have stayed at both. I believe the parking at the Drury Inn Union Station is cheaper. The Drury Union Station is also located in a historic building. Both locations offered excellent customer service! If you go to Missouri Baking, bring cash! Neither checks nor credit cards accepted. I found that out the hard way last week!
