Where to day hike near Tioga Pass, Yosemite?

We are spending 5 nights at Tioga Pass Resort, just three miles east of the Tioga Pass entrance to Yosemite, in midJuly. Would welcome suggestions for hikes. We are moderately fit, fairly experienced hikers in our early sixties who did a 5 day trek in Bhutan last November (though we are not in that kind of shape now).

We like flowers, lakes, peaks, and relatively well-tended trails (those of Bhutan were not, with the exception of Tiger's Nest). We will need to acclimate (will have spent one day in Yosemite Valley before arriving and live at sea level.

Thanks for all suggestions.

If three miles east (ie, below) the Tioga Pass entrance to Yosemite, then you're about ten miles from Tuolumne Meadows. There are several excellent day hikes from that location.

Drive the short dirt road to Saddlebag Lake Resort, take the water taxi to the end of the lake and then hike from lake to lake in Twenty Lakes Basin. There's an 8.5 mile loop, but you can easily shorten the distance. It's rated "moderate difficulty," but some parts are easy.

The Saddleback hike is great, but take plenty of mosquito repellent.

Mosquitos! We hike parts of the 20 Lakes Basin every year in September. We've only encountered mosquitos one year out of 15. But, man, those mozzies were monsters!!

cmstraf, in mid-July, you'd better be prepared!
