Hi
Myself, husband and 20 month old daughter would like to visit Florida this April (April 24th week). We don't know exactly what options we have beside Orlando (being school vacation is it a good option). We are looking for beach, sightseeing, shopping and other family activities.
Your advice would be greatly appreciated.
Where in Florida should we go with a 20 month old toddler?

Take a little advice from a grandmother. Go where you want! A 20 month old will be happy anywhere his/her parents are, and soon enough you'll be spending all your time trying to please your child on vacations! My favorite "family vacation" story came from a parent who'd gone to great lengths to plan a vacation to DC to educate and entertain his children. Child number one got so enthralled with the blue water in the airplane bathroom he never wanted to go back to his seat, and child number two developed an obsession with old cans and couldn't get his eyes off city trash barrels. Neither cared one whit about DC.
I went to Florida last July with a 3 month old and last month when she was 11 months. We found her too young for DisneyWorld (Epcot to be specific). We were in Key West, not real child friendly. Tampa/St.Pete area is a good choice. Beaches, water sports, good museums (Dali was really good), a great Aquarium, TB Devil Rays baseball (plenty of seats available) or Tampa Yankees minor league team. Only a 90 minute drive to Orlando makes it a reasonable day trip.
My girls are 4 and 6 now, but when my oldest was about 17 months old, we rented a condo at Ft Myers Beach. We took our bikes, and did lots of riding and visited Naples and Sanibel. The beaches at ft myers are very nice. Our room was right next to the pool, so we brought our child monitor and sat right outside the doors. Lovely sunsets too. Very romantic, which explains why we had our second daughter 9 months later!
