pattyshearts-

You would likely get better answers for your questions if you noted the location in your titles.

Just to be a bit picky -- crabs aren't traditional part of New England cuisine, so the crab cakes may well be made from mid-Atlantic (or further) crabs with mid-Atlantic "Old Bay" seasoning, if you can find them in Newport.

If you find fish cakes, which can be wonderful, they will probably be made from cod or similar white fish.

The local favorite is "clamcakes" - in another part of the country they might be called fritters. Good ones in Newport at Flo's and many other spots. Another local favorite is stuffies - which is stuffed quahaugs. Good ones can be found at Christy's.(Eat outside at Christy's and have fun watching people.)There are many spots in Newport with good chowder and clamcakes!

Best Chowdah: The Black Pearl on Bannister's wharf. Sit outside and enjoy!
