Fodorites, please help a relative newcomer to the area. My sweet small-town hairdresser is not quite cutting it--ha! that was hair humor--and as I have a special occasion coming up, I'm willing to splurge on a good cut. Any opinions on Urban Retreat for hair cutting? Any other suggestions? My hair thanks you!
Where can I get a great haircut in Minneapolis?

I've never been to Urban Retreat for a haircut but I have a friend who loves it. I have been to Jon English which is a few blocks east of U.R. and have liked it. It's been a while since I've been there though so I can't recommend anyone in particular.
My regular place is Spalon Montage on 50th and France in Edina. They also have locations in Chanhassen and Woodbury. I go to Shelley and have loved all my cuts from her. I've also gotten good cuts from BreAnn.
Good luck!

is that you garrison, you wag! forgot your bowl again, did you! You know that's the secret to a good cut.
That's really helpful, thanks Jane! We'll be in Ireland for a wedding, and the humidity there means I need a better-than-usual cut or I'll look like Bozo the Clown!
No problem! I forgot to add the website for Spalon Montage if you are interested...

Tim Trudeau at H Design studio on Lyndale in Minneapolis. He's incredible!
Tom Zeis at Salon LaTerre, 34th and Hennepin.
For the benefit of future Minneapolis haircut-seekers, I'm back to report that I got a really good cut from Erin at Urban Retreat, and all the other heads being worked on by other stylists looked pretty good, too. I guess I just fixated on UR this time, but thanks everyone for your timely and specific advice!
Head over to Studio 33. My friend Kathy owns it. It is beautiful, clean and cheap. She is an awesome Christian woman who cuts hair like no other. Tell her Karlie sent you.
