Where 2 Stay on Monterey Peninsula--Monterey or Pacific Grove?

My husband and I are planning a CA trip next May with a 3-4 day sojourn on Monterey peninsula. We prefer to rent apts/cottages vs motels/B and Bs. We tend to prefer "the quiet side" vs hustle bustle but don't want to put in a lot of driving time in traffic just to go out to dinner.

Any comment son Monterey vs Pacific Grove as base camps? Both have appeal as far as convenient locations, properties available.

Thanks!

We stayed in Pacific Grove and loved it. It was quieter than Monterey, but realized that they are not that far apart.

Neither of those towns are exactly big in "hustle bustle", but you should avoid staying anywhere very near Cannery Row in Monterey, b/c the Aquarium (which is wonderful and well worth a visit) and all the surrounding shops and restaurants attract lots of school groups and tourists. Beyond that, as Debit says, these two towns are so close that it can be hard to tell when you've left one and entered the other, so just look for a cottage on a quiet street, or near the beach in PG, and you'll be fine.

The Monterey Aquarium is physically located partly in Monterey and partly in Pacific Grove -- that should give you an idea how close they are That said, Pacific Grove sounds right up your alley! Quiet, charming, and lovely.

Thanks everyone. This helps a lot. Sounds as if PG will get the nod.
Can't wait!

Click here: Pacific Grove California Vacation Rentals by Owner - Pacific Grove California VRBO, Vacation Home Rentals, Condo

See if the above site will load. It is a web site for small homes and cottages in PG to rent.

I ditto PASSIONFISH. We live in PG area and love the place.

We recently had excellent meals at Fandango in Pacific Grove and Montrio Bistro in downtown Monterey. ***kim***

sf, last weekend Passionfish was still in the same place. Were you thinking about the news quiet awhile ago that Ted and Cindy might open a place in the Old Bath House space? Hasn't happened and they never intended to leave the space in PG.
