That is a strange title! Another way of saying it is, what do you like to focus on when you visit?

But I'm curious - and this question might be more for many-timers since first timers are probably drinking from the hose to see it all. I still do that - unsuccessfully.

Some examples of what I mean...

Do you go for the NYC of the stage - Broadway, or TV shows, or visiting film sites, etc?

Do you go for the NYC of food - focus on all your meals and various foodie things including food tours?

Do you go to just people watch and roam the city? Nightlife?

Is your passion the architecture? Or street art?

Shopping?

etc...

I am going back up for an umpteenth visit (three nights) and am pretty much going to keep my visit to the southern part of the island and Brooklyn - street art and roaming the streets, including street photography. And food.

curious what others like to focus on when they visit... the city has sooooo many options!

Not limited to New York but...I think it's interesting how it shifts for every visit I do to any city. I usually go for the museums and architecture first and then, if I end up falling in love with the place, I'll go back for neighborhoods or food or biking, green spaces. Something new every time (and I fall in love more often than not). Traveling rarely shortens my list or "ticks off" a box- it gives me more possibilities and more difficult choices. I'm always wondering- if this is what if it's like in summer, what is it like in fall or winter or spring? I thought initially, when I started traveling solo, that I was motivated by seeing museums, seeing larger cities than I can visit at home. But that narrow scope has widened considerably. As my horizons have grown- my interests have grown as well. I've done or considered activities that would not have even been on my radar even a decade ago.

I hope you post a trip report on Brooklyn! I'm very interested in visiting but my approaching NYC trip is already overflowing with possibilities

Typical day for me in NYC. A stroll through Central Park. A visit to the Met Museum.

Alternatively a walk on the Highline and a visit to Chelsea Market.

Occasionally a Broadway show or a Knick game

Downtown, I like the World Financial Center atrium and the promenade on the Hudson, sitting in City Hall Park, walking to the South Street Seaport.

As much theater as possible, with some sightseeing thrown in.
We were in NYC in July for a couple of days; saw 3 plays, went to the 9/11 Museum, toured Federal Hall and Radio City Music Hall, audio tour of Grand Central Terminal.
Very happy with meals at Basera, Green Chinese, Mooncake Foods, Hale & Hearty.

When I'm in New York, it's usually for business reasons or for a stopover on an international flight. In 2017, we're going to spend one night in Soho (Crosby Street Hotel) and probably won't do anything more than hang out in the neighborhood, go for dinner, maybe walk the High Line if weather permits.

We lived in Manhattan for a while years ago and have been there several times (my husband worked at a bank near Wall Street), but normally, if we're going to take a break in a major East Coast city on a trip from Europe back to the U.S., we choose Philadelphia.
