What's Your Poison and Where Are You Traveling for Thanksgiving?

Chemin des Papes Cotes du Rhone for me tonight while showing a friend some of our 500 photos from Venezia (I wouldn't bore him with all of them ).

No travel plans for Thanksgiving here. DH has to go to Houston to run some errands the week before, but otherwise we'll be home.

So, what's your poison this evening and where are you traveling for Thanksgiving? Even if it's just a few doors down to a friend's house for dinner.

Poison is TBD. May have to have something after I watch my husband coach his nephew's HS hockey team.

We're staying in town and will be going to my longtime best friend's house. We started this tradition 3yrs ago when she and her family moved to be near me--we'll maybe I was just one reason ....R puts on quite the spread and loves doing it. How she can be such a wonderful cook and stays so skinny is beyond me. And how can I be friends with her?!

Hi Statia,

Welcome back! Will you be sharing some of your photos with us as well?

No poison tonight, but some friends are coming over tomorrow night and are bringing a Calfornia Syrah from a little winery called Elise (Elyse?). They have been raving about it.

Traditionally, we stay home for Thanksgiving and family and friends come to us. This year it's just my parents and brother, and perhaps some friends here in town who are trying to duck their own family, lol. I really enjoy preparing the Thanksgiving meal, although last year, when I was feeding 25, I cheated and ordered pre-cooked ham and turkey. I think I may have started a new tradition...

Happy Weekend everyone

I am headed to an Evening Of Lights event tonight with girlfriends, with live music and Oregon wines. So my poison will be something from there.

We will drive up to Seattle for Thanksgiving to visit the inlaws. With all this great advice on the board, we decided to stay in a hotel though instead of with family So staying N of Seattle for two nights and then staying in downtown for 2 nights. Will see the inlaws just on Thanksgiving. We are bringing the wine Lots of it.

We used to live up there, so we are looking forward to seeing old friends and visiting our old favorite spots.

Statia--I would love to see your pics. Anyway way to post a link to them?

Poison TBD as well-- I'm still at work! I think I'll be having a glass or two of Wild Horse Cabernet 2002 with dinner. Or a Grey Goose on the rocks with a twist. Or two. Before dinner.

Thanksgiving? Dinner with the in-laws, in town. Then driving down to San Diego to spend the rest of the weekend-- to just laze about with friends with a home in Hillcrest.

Welcome home Statia. I too hope you will be able to post photos of your beautiful trip to Venice. Now if you could just send all of us some of the wonderful food you ate in Venice we would all be sooooo delighted!!

Poison, the only thing I have in the house is Chardonnay, nothing special, so that will be my poison tonight. But will have some fantastic wine tomorrow night at a restaurant where I am meeting some Fodorites for a good visit, wonderful food and again, great wine.

Thanksgiving will be ten minutes away at my daughters and SIL and grandsons.
Thanksgiving has become easy for my daughter and I as I turned over the roasting of the turkey to my Italian SIL. It is amazing what the web can teach you. And wasn't that smart of me, LOL. I love cooking in the kitchen with him, we have such fun. And he is such a great cook (aren't all Italians)..he never had a whole roasted turkey until he came to the US..he loves it!

We will be celebrating my daughters birthday also so it will be an extra special Thanksgiving.

Have a relaxing weekend as you dream of Venice!

Poison TBD here, as well. We're going to a French restaurant tonight, so I'm thinking it will be something French....

We're traveling to Amelia Island for Thanksgiving this year to see Bob the Nav, Mrs. Bob and the rest of mr_go's family.

Happy weekend, everyone!

This is always a fun thread and I never chime in, but our Thanksgiving is undoubtedly going to be completely different than any we've experienced.

But ... tonight off to our favorite watering hole for beverages unknown - decide when I sit down. And thinking of all the Australian wineries we hope to visit soon, because ....

Thanksgiving, ahhhh ... Brampton Island in the Whitsundays off the coast of Queensland in Australia!

Statia, thank you for keeping the Poison up! (and Jorr for FFR&R!)

Mr Again warned me in the morning, he has a surprise bottle to open in the evening. Should I look forward to it or be aware

I will not travel in November... maybe an interesting event in San Francisco worth describing here? I'll keep you all posted

Good evening, Statia. Welcome home from Venice. Watched a travel show on Italy today, lots of shots from Venice. ahhhhh....

Bought some Limoncello yesterday - my first bottle! Looking forward to a few sips after dinner.

Thanksgiving will be here in Austin. Looking forward to having son and his new wife over. This will be her first Thanksgiving in America (she's Russian).

Greetings everyone! Tonight's poison is a Louis Jadot 2002 Chardonnay. For Thanksgiving this year I will be traveling to Maryland to celebrate with my family. DH is working and on call during the holiday so this week I decided to indulge in a ticket north! I was hoping to surprise my mom but it wasn't working out so today, her birthday, I told her of my plans. We are so excited as I have not been "home" for Thanksgiving in years. My sister, brothers and their kids, a favorite aunt and uncle are there every year--I can't wait!

Hi Statia! Welcome home!

My poison of the moment is Tostito's Queso & scoops chips...and a can of Coke.

We're heading out to a small venue concert (rock music) tonight, so I'll have some beers later...

For Thanksgiving we're undecided as yet. Trying to find out what DH's family has in mind, so we can figure out if we host or we go to my parents' house. My vote is for everyone who wants to come to come here. I'd rather cook than drive all over NJ! Trish

Once again, Bogle Chardonnay (and quite frankly I am starting a tad early)and if nothing else I am consistent.

Traveling to in-laws in NJ. I would stay with friends here if given the choice, between the annoyance of traveling MA to NJ and the issues of some of the folks there I would love to take a pass on this one.

Oh well, I'll have to steal away to NYC for a day to make the whole ordeal bearable.

I am so happy because for the first time in around 15 years I am staying home for Thanksgiving! We usually fly up to my folk's place in Seattle, but I figured it was time to change the routine. We go in July now instead. Better weather and NO holiday. I will miss my mother's canned cranberry sauce though!

Welcome back from Italy! My poison is a Mich Ultra beer.
I am cooking for Thanksgiving, my parents and mother in law coming. I have also invited two families to come. We will see how many can. I thought it might be fun to have a big holiday!

It's only 3:30 here in Honolulu, but I am ready for my drink! Going with friends to a nearby wine bar that sells 2.5 oz. glasses of wine so you can taste more.

Not going anywhere for Thanksgiving since my cousin from Sunnyvale is coming to see me. Then on Dec 1 I depart for sunny Chicago.

Pepsi... whopeee, it's Friday night. We spent the day tearing down the garden and we are exhausted and dirty and aching. Ordered Buffalo wings and ate in bed with the TV on and the Pepsi flowing.

We are eating T'day dinner at the Opus Restaurant at the Renaissance Hotel in Pittsburgh. DH has to work, but can sneak out for an hour for dinner, and this is the closest place that doesn't have a buffet.

My mother and I have been trying to convince my father to come out with us for Thanksgiving for years, and this is the first time he has agreed. MY DH always works, and it's just me, and my elderly parents. Mother and I hate to cook for just the 3 of us. Rest of the family is far away, and saves their time off for Christmas.
