What's Up with the Monterey Hyatt?

I have heard so many bad things about the Monterey Hyatt, and trip advisor is full of negative reviews. I have a conference there later in the summer, and I don't have a choice - I have to stay there. I'll be 6 months pregnant and I don't really want a nasty mold-filled room. I can take thin walls or a room that needs updating, but I can't take cigarette smoke or mold.

Any ideas? I was going to call and talk with the manager so they can put a note in my file. But I'm afraid, with all the complaints about service, that it may make things worse!

Of course I would love to stay elsewhere, but unfortunately I simply can't for reasons I won't bore you with.

I understand the property recently began a major renovation which is scheduled to be completed in April, 2008. Request a renovated room, hopefully some will be done by then. Good luck.

And DO mention that you are pregnant. They will probably go out of their way to accommodate you in a clean, safe environment...they do not need a lawsuit, you know. And with the letigious society we live in.....well.

i had a confrence there and we stayed there and thought it was very nice and didn't have any problems at all. no mold or anythign like that and i think we got one of the cheaper rooms because we got the good confrence pricing. i'd try it if i were you- not by the ocean but we still thought it was quite beautiful

Thanks everyone! I called and requested a renovated room, and told them that I could not stay in a room with mold due to my pregnancy. They said that it would not be a problem. I will report back to let you know how it went!

That's good to hear birder. I will be interested in your report also. I stayed there in '99', and it was already looking a little shabby back then. I'm surprised it took then so long to start their rennovation.

Be sure to call the morning you depart to reconfirm. Shoot, I would even call again in the afternoon if you are arriving late!
