What's the lobstah like in late September?

Good quality hard shell? That mushy soft shell they sell cheaply?

Hoping for some tasty lobsters when I'm in Boston...any recommendations for lobster places? I've been to Legal Seafoods before but was hoping for more casual places, like lobster pounds.

Any input much appreciated!

Enjoy-la!

Hi klam,

Casual places I can think of are:

James Hook http://www.jameshooklobster.com/ Their "shack" is on Atlantic Ave half-way btw South Station & Long Wharf. There are 2-3 tables inside and 3-4 picnic benches outside.

Yankee Lobster http://www.yankeelobstercompany.com/ in the Waterfront area.

I'm not sure where you're staying, but one place that's a bit out of the way is Alive & Kicking http://www.yelp.com/biz/alive-and-ki...ters-cambridge
I haven't been but my sis-in-law recently had their lobster sandwich (not a roll but on sandwich bread), and she said it was very good. and it's a very good price too.

P.S. I haven't been but I just read a pretty good review of a new seafood Food Truck called GO FISH. It parks at different locations throughout the city during the week. Here's its website: http://www.brothertrucker.biz/

Awesome suggestions, thx a mint yk! Appreciate the links too

I'll have a week of free days so I'm definitely going to hunt down that food truck...just my kinda thing.

Not sure exactly where we're staying either - still trying to snag a Priceline hotel but have a backup - generally it'll be around Copley but I'm willing to travel for food...LOL!

Enjoy-la!

Will definitely second Yankee Lobster and James Hook. Alive and Kicking indeed does a very good lobster sandwich (it's served in ciabatta bread, if memory serves), but it's kind of a pain to get to (even though it's in Cambridge), as it's not near public transportation. The other two options mentioned are easier to get to.

I'm also a big fan of the lobster roll at Neptune Oyster. They do both cold and hot versions, both excellent.

I'm also not convinced that there's any appreciable difference in the lobster meat from a softer or harder shelled lobster. I've had both.

bachslunch, thx a mint for your thoughts on these & rec.

Great to know that the Cambridge one is far from T/bus which I'll be using - saves me the hassle of trying to figure out logistics for that one.

I'll definitely get to one of the other 3!

Enjoy-la!
