Hi Anne -- we seem to be posting at sympatico times -- there is a website I get frequent email updates from, I think it's www.playbills.com or something like that -- to a search on playbill here and you may get a better url (I just recently cleaned up my email so lost the direct link). They offer special prices for many performances and also some good hotel deals. It doesn't cost anything to sign up for their email newsletter, which they send about once a week.

Drop the s -- it's www.playbill.com
When are you going? Is there enough time to do advance tickets for the big popular shows? The two hottest new musicals are Follies and The Producers, but tickets are very scarce. Kiss Me Kate, The Music Man, Annie Get Your Gun, and Contact are longer running musicals that are all worth seeing. The Full Monty is a whole lot of fun, but tickets are also pretty scarce I believe. For non-musicals, I recommend Dinner with Friends (actually an off-Broadway show, a Pulitzer Prize winner), The Dinner Party (with Henry Winkler, John Ritter, and Len Cariou, plus three fabulous women, less known but perhaps equally talented to the men), Proof, and a new rival of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest with the super talented Gary Sinese. Need even more suggestions? Just ask, or better yet browse the playbill website and then ask us specific questions.

Hi Anne,
Go to http://www.telecharge.com and you can find out what's playing both on and off Broadway. You can also order tickets if you choose. The site is good also because you can obtain showtimes and dates. Also there is an option to click on a show's website if it has one.
The tickets at telecharge are full price. If you've read the posts RE Broadway tickets you probably know that on the day of performance you can buy tickets (cash or Travelers check) at TKTS in Times Square or at the World Trade Center.
Also the previously mentioned Playbill site (after you become a member - it's free to become a member) you can find discount tickets to Broadway/Off-Broadway productions as Chicago, Rent, Stomp, 42nd Street.
"Cabaret" is one of my recommendations - at Studio 54 (I was excited just to be there and I loved the production). It depends on your taste. "Beauty and the Beast" and "Phantom of the Opera" are easier to get tickets to now. As mentioned before, "The Producers" (Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane)is just opening and tickets are scarce. The Lion King is still very hard.
"Les Miz" and "Chicago" are still big favorites. I'm sure other posters will give you their views.

While I was in New York last month I saw the following shows:
The Full Monty - Loved it. Very funny and entertaining. I would recommend it highly.
Proof - Great play and performances with a clever and interesting plot. Highly recommended.
Kiss Me Kate - Entertaining with good performances, but not one of my favorites ... a matter of personal taste.

Patrick gave a pretty good rundown on the best of the current shows. I'd add Cabaret, Chicago and Kiss Me Kate.
As far as ticket availability, the only "tough tickets" right now are The Producers and The Lion King and possibly Follies and Aida. You should be able to get tickets for all the others, especially for weekday performances. (Follies was at the half-priced TKTS booth last night!)
