What's not to love in San Diego?
Traffic?? Okay, we didn’t love the traffic. As for the rest of it (in no particular order) these were some of our favorite things from our trip last week (arriving 11/7 & leaving ll/14):
• We loved walking along the Embarcadero & wandering around the Gaslamp District
• Loved the water cascading over the rock wall (not to mention the fabulous Thai food) at Rama on Fourth Street (Google their website – it’s awesome too)
• Loved the fish tacos at Brigantine’s in Coronado
• Loved lunch on the terrace at George’s in La Jolla (especially since we got lucky & were seated right away without a reservation on Saturday morning at 11:30)
• Loved the fresh tortillas, carnitas & Margaritas at the Old Town Mexican Café
• Loved sitting on a bench behind the Hotel Del & watching a wedding on the beach (especially the little boy who was all dressed up & amusing himself by seeing how much sand he could pour in his pockets, shoes, hat, etc.)
• Loved wandering through the neighborhoods of Coronado & the nighttime view of the skyline from the ferry coming back
• Loved the view from atop Point Loma as the Star of India & its companion ships went out to sea on Sunday morning (wow)
• Loved watching the paragliders go off the cliff at Torrey Pines Gliderport. We chickened out this time… maybe next time
• Loved the listening to the quiet & the surf from the cliffs at Torrey Pines
• Loved the fact that the trains didn’t bother us at the Hampton Inn at 1531 Pacific Highway where we paid roughly $150 per night including taxes
• Loved the snow leopards, the sunbears, the lemurs, the fighting hyenas (we were assured by an official zoo person that they were young & playing & not trying to kill each other, which is what it looked like to us), the zebras – in other words, we loved pretty much everything at the zoo
• Loved what we saw of Balboa Park (not nearly enough). It’s on our list for “next time”.
• Loved the sunrise over the skyline from our balcony at the Sheraton SD Hotel & Marina where our conference was
• Loved the lush plants everywhere, the cool shapes of the palm trees & the faint aura of eucalyptus
• After all that green, we loved seeing the flaming colors of the oaks & maples as our plane landed back in North Carolina.
• And most of all, we loved the kisses from Charlie & Baloo, our black Lab mutts who were so very happy we were home.
What a great trip! Thanks so much to all of you who helped us plan a wonderful time in San Diego!

That was wonderful. A couple of months ago, my DH had a business trip in San Diego. I was in heaven and went everywhere. Usually, on any trip, after a week, I'm looking forward to getting back home. After two weeks, I only felt that way on the very last day. I would go again in a second.
Thanks for your report

I was away from the computer with my inevitable (it seems) DFW Airport cold (do the rest of you get sick when you fly through there??)
Anyway, thanks for all your responses!
Barbara, you mentioned Point Loma... we asked my DH's niece, nephew, & his girlfriend (all 30ish & all have lived in SD for a few years) & they had never heard of it! What a pity! That was a real highlight of the trip for us (even if we had not seen the Star and her flotilla). It's such a gorgeous and serene place. If I had not read about it here, we would have missed it too, so thanks again!

While I love San Diego and go there every year, I must say that last year when I walked from the Harbor to the Zoo and back, it was one of the filthiest cities I have ever walked in. Litter everywhere

Wow big..
We pride ourselves on trying to be a very clean city..was it after a
'Santa Ana' with the winds whipping around?
I hate litter and it breaks my heart to see it strewn about or when morons throw it out like it's not big deal..
We usually have a Clean San Diego!

Maybe we were so dazzled by the blue sky & the water that we missed the litter! We thought San Diego was very clean.
I'm curious, bigtyke -- how long does it take to walk from the harbor to the zoo?? (We looked at the map, and even though we are big walkers, we decided to take a cab so our legs would last for a whole day at the zoo.)

eab,Great report!! You bring back the best memories. Many years ago I worked way up at the point in Pt. Loma. My daily commute took me past Ft. Rosecrans. It was called NEL at the time. (Naval Electronics Lab.) Oh what a great job. My lab was perched on cliff overlooking the ocean. Those were the days. Alas I married a military man and moved back east. I always loved that drive. I am glad you were able to experience San Diego, Americas finest city without a doubt!!

We were in La Jolla a couple of weeks ago. Our hotel had recommende George's for dinner, and we lucked into a great table at the corner on their beautiful patio. We had a panoramic view of the water, and a very wonderful dinner with great service. Highly recommend George's uplstairs patio.
