well i think it depends on what you like to do

i doubt that either have gala 4th of july events

but there are great things to explore around both places-- i think it is a bit easieer adn quicker to get to interesting places from albu--with santa fe and taos and hispanic culture

but denver has its mountain areas

Well, I'd fly into either and head for SW Colorado and spend July 4th in the little town of Lake City - 'cause someone I know did years ago and said it was a picture postcard Americana 4th of July. Actually, this has been on my "to do" list for a few years. I love the drive from both Alb and Denver to Durango and there's so much to see on each route.

I'm sure that's not the answer you were looking for though.

If you like baseball, there are usually fireworks after the Rockies game, 3rd or 4th. They are in town. May be hard to get tickets for the games but you can watch from anywhere downtown. Usually lots of fireworks around Denver. Breckenridge has a funky 4th of July parade, at least they used to. Could drive up to the mountains for a day.

In Albuquerque, there will be fireworks after the Isotopes game on the 3rd or 4th, and there is usually a big whoop-de-do 4th of July celebration at Balloon Fiesta Park. I don't really know what other towns here do on the 4th, but there is sure to be something going on.

.....i doubt that either have gala 4th of july events..... Wow !!! is that an understatement. Unless, of course, your definition of gala is very different than mine. Denver has wide range of activities as mentioned earlier. All of the major mountain area -- Breckenridge, Vail, Aspen, etc. -- have major blow outs. Fireworks in the mountains can be a little iffy depending on weather conditions and fire danger. Have not heard of Lake City or their 4th but am sure it can be equally just about anywhere in the mountains towns. You will have plenty to see and do in Denver.

I have spent many 4th of July's in Vail and Santa Fe.

You'll get fireworks and festivities in Vail. The weather is gorgeous in Vail this time of year. We enjoy outdoor activities and you can find a lot to do there -- horseback riding, canoeing, cattle drives, kayaking, etc. I'm not sure about the temperatures in Denver but the surrounding mountain resorts are lovely. We recently visited Denver for a few days and I would think it would have a lot to offer over the holiday but if I were close to a ski town that would be my choice.

Santa Fe has a fireworks display walking distance from the plaza. Also, in the morning there is a 4th of July Pancake Breakfast in the plaza. Later a parade with follow with old hot rods and strange kit cars. Very fun to watch from the patio at Ore House. Also, there will be other activities in the plaza and music as well. Temperatures are warmer than Vail but with the low humidity it isn't uncomfortable. I would pick Santa Fe over ABQ for a short visit any day. Also, the Santa Fe Opera is opening and you could see La Traviata or The Elixir of Love while you are there. Lots of outdoor activities around Santa Fe as well.

I know that wasn't Denver or ABQ but the choices outside of those airport cities are better imo.
